Denver area educational telecommunications consortium (daetc dba 35 mile foundation) is organized and will be operated exclusively for charitable, educational, scientific and social welfare purposes within the meaning of sections 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code.

Our mission to help historically marginalized people step across the digital divide by funding initiatives and unexpected opportunities that enable affordable internet access and advance social justice.

The 990 is reviewed by the organization's outside counsel and at least one corporate officer. Additionaly the form is presented to the board members before it is filed.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Each covered person is obligated to: 1) scrutinize, on an ongoing basis, their interests, positions, and relationships, and those of related parties, to identify actual or potential conflicts of interest that appear to be material; and 2) promptly disclose any situation that might reasonably be viewed as a conflict of interest to the appropriate conflicts authority. If a covered person has reason to believe that another covered person has failed to disclose a conflict of interest, they must promptly inform the conflicts authority, which in turn must promptly investigate and afford the affected covered person an opportunity to respond. If, after investigation and hearing the covered persons response, the conflicts authority determines there was a failure to disclose, it may take any disciplinary and corrective action that it considers appropriate, which may include removal under the corporations bylaws. The conflicts authority also can initiate an investigation into an apparent failure to disclose a conflict of interest.each covered person will, upon election or appointment and at least annually thereafter so long as they remain in office, sign a statement that affirms the covered person has received, read, and agrees to comply with this policy, and that identifies any interests, positions, or relationships that they believe could contribute to a conflict of interest in the future.

Form 990 Additional Information

BACKGROUNDDuring the filing period, the organization put in place the infrastructure needed to relaunch its low-cost broadband offering. As of March 31, 2025, the organization, via relationships with other nonprofits, has placed nearly 10,000 broadband internet accounts with individuals with a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level or who are enrolled in an income-based government assistance program. For a certain portion of the agreement, the service to 35 Miles customers was discounted at 100%, resulting in no program service revenue for the current year. These discounts amount to more than $150,000 for the filing period.The organization has continued to make grants to both 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations during the filing period. The grants have supported efforts to close the digital divide, strengthen independent media, and spur civic action. The amount of grants disbursed during the filing period was approximately $290,000.

As of March 31, 2025, the organization, via relationships with other nonprofits, has placed nearly 10,000 broadband internet accounts with individuals with a household income below 200% of the federal poverty level or who are enrolled in an income-based government assistance program. For a certain portion of the agreement, the service to 35 Miles customers was discounted at 100%, resulting in no program service revenue for the current year.
