Mission

The adoption exchange believes every child deserves a family. Therefore, we are the connection between children who wait in foster care and families who adopt. We provide expertise and support before, during and after the adoption process.

Major Activities

Activity 2
National Resource Center for the Recruitment & Retention of Foster & Adoptive Parents at AdoptUsKids. (NRCRRFAP)NRCRRFAP at AdoptUsKids provides traning and technical assistance services designed to recruit foster and adoptive families for the children in our foster care system. In addition, a portion of these funds provided specific assistance to states affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In fiscal 2010/11, 1,710 individuals from 17 states or tribal territories participated in training and adoption consultation events.

Field Office GrantsField offices use federal, state and foundation grants to serve the needs of Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah children and families and to facilitate the adoption process. 246 children and 44 prospective and adoptive parents attended 10 adoption parties in two states.

IRS990/Description0Facilitating the permanent placement of children with special needs in adoptive homes throughout the United States. In our quest to find forever families for waiting children, The Adoption Exchange has helped to find permanent homes for 6,623 children since 1983. In fiscal 2010, we served 1,215 waiting children, 393 of these children were placed in loving adoptive homes. Our web site, www.adoptex.org had an average of slightly over 1,200 visits each day; profiled 1,194 children in our searchable database; and provided video stream profiles of 143 waiting children. In additon, 23,892 individuals received one-on-one answers to adoption inquiries and requests for advocacy or information, while 7,182 adoptive families and professionals received one-on-one post-adoption information and support in various forms.
