“The executive committee is composed of the acting chair and vice-chair of the board, the president, chair of the trustee governance committee, the chair of the finance committee, the chair of the human resources committee, and the chair of any other duly designated committees. The chair and vice-chair of the board of trustees shall serve as chair and vice-chair of the executive committee. The executive committee may exercise all of the authority of the board of trustees between meetings of the board of trustees.”
“The form 990 is prepared by a independent tax preparer. The cfo and treasurer review the 990 in detail. After their review, the form 990 is electronically provided to the young life board of trustees for their review prior to filing.”
“A copy of the conflict of interest policy and a form is sent out each year to all officers, directors, and key employees. They must return a signed copy of the form indicating any conflict of interest. Any conflict is reviewed by the legal department. Any decisions regarding a conflict are made by the board. Board members are restricted from voting on issues where a conflict of interest exists.”
“Line 15a: in july of each year, young life's chief human resources officer provides the ceo's compensation history and ceo comparative data to the chair of the young life board of trustees. The ceo provides a written review of performance-to-goal to the executive committee of the board after the end of each fiscal year. In addition, the ceo submits a complete assessment of young life. Other data may be included based on the ceo's current focus as requested by the executive committee. The executive committee will meet by phone to evaluate the ceo's performance against goals. Based on the ceo's performance and comparability data, the executive committee determines the bonus to be paid for the previous year and sets annual compensation for the upcoming year. A written summary of the discussion and decision is filed and documented in the human resources chair notebook. Line 15b: each year officers and key employees receive an employee performance evaluation from their supervisors. Human resources provides market comparisons as part of the determination of compensation. The finance committee and executive committee review and approve the total compensation increase for the mission. The decisions are contemporaneously recorded in the committee minutes.”
“Governing documents and the conflict of interest policy are available upon request. Financial statements are available on the young life website.”
“Compensation reported in part vii, column d and schedule j, part ii, column b is the amount reported on the individual's w-2, box 1 or 5 (whichever amount is greater) per the irs instructions. In the case of minister's compensation when box 5 of the w-2 is not applicable, box 1 compensation is used. Employee deferrals to qualified retirement plans are normally captured in box 5, not box 1 of form w-2. For reporting purposes we have included the minister's retirement plan deferrals in part vii, column f and schedule j, part ii, column c.”
“Young life is a church and is therefore exempt from filing the form 990, but does so voluntarily.”
“Intercompany eliminations -6,936,936.”
“Campership and capital funds are given by donors and restricted in purpose. They usually are spent within the same year they are given. Campership funds are given to help fund kids going to yl camps and capital funds are given to purchase property, plant and equipment and are also typically spent in the year given. These funds are shown here to help the reader to see a broader view of the funding in young life.”
“Young life foundation holds an endowment which is exclusively to further the exempt purpose of young life. The balance of the endowment at 9/30/2025 is $2,505,058.”
