“Line 28 Program Service Accomplishments - Powering student voice: Thrive Ed commits to authorizing and powering the voice of students, and we demonstrate this by treating students as partners in transforming education so that their learning is relevant to their cultures, their learning styles, and their futures. We are a change-making education organization with an unshakeable belief in the ability of students and teachers to forge more inclusive and authentic learning experiences. We amplify and cherish student voice, using it as a foundation for our relationship-based community. Design2Thrive Studios: During the 2020-21 school year, a diverse group of thirteen student interns and two educators who served as "engagement guides" were hired to build upon the work of the previous summer internship by developing two workshops on the topics of co-design and restorative practices for educators and students. These co-designed workshops were profoundly successful for the educators and students involved. It allowed for another opportunity for teachers and students to test a new way of learning together and developing critical competencies through the process. Thrive Ed looks forward to implementing this model of co-design with more teachers to further understand how to ensure students are investing in and leading their learning. Changing the narrative: Thrive Ed seeks to elevate and amplify student voice in the media by providing opportunities such as podcasting, social media, and blogging. An example of this is the Tom Schimmer Podcast which aired on October 29, 2020 "Detail Matter, Thrive Ed Students". Collaborative Lab School: Thrive Ed is reinventing school by engaging students as co-creators in the development of our Collaborative Lab School. Student interns facilitated focus groups with students and surveyed students in Hopkins to understand their needs and perspectives in setting up the Collaborative Lab School. Thrive Ed's school model will focus on innovative design and deep implementation of mentorship, feedback and self-regulation, individualized pathways, internships, and meaningful authentic assessment to ensure all students learn the competencies needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global community.”
