Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Bethlehem House Foundation, Inc. provides spiritual supports and faith experiences for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who live in congregate residential settings in DC and Maryland. We have a partnership with a local Best Buddies organization who join us in our activities when school is in session during the fall and spring semesters. We host a Catholic Mass offered at a nearby venue followed by a dinner for the community---residents of the group homes, their direct support staff and the Best Buddies. The meal is offered for free. And the Foundation also organizes weekend events for our community, such as socials, going to movies, etc. This sometimes involves paying for transportation, food, and the cost of the event such as movie tickets. These residents and others with disabilities have very limited income, so the Foundation has hosted these events for free. Total cost of program expenses 2022: $8583

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
The Foundation serves adults with developmental disabilities with a weekly Catholic Mass and dinner that connects them to a local Best Buddies chapter from CUA, a local university. These gatherings can be as many as 15 -20 people. In August 2021, we were able to resume these in-person activities but were required, due to COVID restrictions, to find another venue with more space. Our new venue site incurred greater costs for the Foundation because we were using an outside vendor instead of a pro bono service partner. We also elected to distribute religious items and booklets for seasonal spiritual enrichment. The community of students and adults with disabilities were reunited and new student Best Buddies were connected to the residents of two local group homes. During breaks in the university schedule, and before we resumed in August, the Foundation provided weekly zoom prayer services and Masses to our combined community of residents and students. These weekly services involved creating unique scripts, coordinating music, scripture readers, etc. We also provided religious books, supplies and materials for the participants to work on during the weeks they were in isolation.$0$37,868
