“The mission of the seacoast village project is to create a community of older adults who work together to improve their odds of being able to grow older in their homes and communities by getting connected, getting smart and helping each other out.”
“"get connected" programs: we expanded and diversified our calendar of educational and social offerings, building our membership base to 188 with the support of active volunteers and part-time staff for communication and administration. Monthly e-newletters (printed as requested) and website updates provided consistent information about upcoming programs with easy registration options, along with information about other programs in the community serving older adults. Member information/stories and recommended vendors also increased interaction between the 15 towns served.”
“"help each other out" programs: the neighbor-helping-neighbor volunteer model is the backbone of the village concept, which involves recruiting, vetting, background checks, onboarding, training and supervising. A strong base of support for members is critical and must be able to adjust as needs and abilities change over time.”
“"get smart" programs: provide activities to our members and the general community about healthy aging, preparing for aging in place and navigating more effectively when problems arise. We planned and hosted 40 educational/enrichment programs, 14 member outings, 22 social activities, 28 prospective and new member info sessions along with volunteer training. Expenses for programs & events included supplies, venue costs, and hospitality/event support. We were able to secure some no- cost/discounted/donated venues and professional speakers, plus volunteers provided 1,523 hours of service to support these programs.”
