Mission

The primary purpose of the organization is to act as a mutual aid cooperative fostering sustainable community to support the well-being, empowerment, and self-determination of food and housing insecure residents with dignity and compassion through providing nutritious food, hygiene products, clothing and other basic essentials while providing education and resources to enable self-sufficiency.

The distribution of fresh produce, grocery items, basic hygiene essentials, and clothing to food-insecure and housing-insecure and/or homeless residents of the greater long beach area. We also build vegetable gardens to enhance the self-determination of local families.

Form 990, Part III, Line 2: New Services

In 2019, the organization's services greatly expanded. At the start of operations in september 2018, it distributed approximately 50 pounds of donated food per week. By the end of 2019, that amount had grown to 600 pounds of food weekly, plus large numbers of essential hygiene items, clothing, shoes, and socks were provided directly to those in need.the organiation's resources increased dramatically as it connected and collaborated with more organizations such as food finders, food forward, city heart of harvest partners long beach, farmer's markets, food banks, schools, and other recovered food suppliers, allowing it to serve exponentially more people in need.the organization also expnanded from zero gardens to the creation of eight completed, productive urban gardens in private locations around the city.as the organization continued to attract more volunteers, it increased its capacity to do more. Its operating budget and incoming revenues greatly expanded with a growing network of individual donors, sponsorships, and grants, capped by a significant community impact grant awarded by the long beach community foundation in july 2019.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3: Ceased Conducting or Significant Changes To Services

During the first eight months of operations (september 2018 to april 2019), all organization goods were stored at the home of its executive director, kristen cox, including canned foods, produce, perishables, clothing, and toiletries. The organization used its executive director's minivan as its distribution vehicle for food distribution for local parks and distressed neighborhoods on weekends.in may 2019, the organization acquired a used 24-foot converted passenger bus with plenty of room to hold much of the dry goods and to organize boxes and coolers for the organization's weekend distribution routes. But the organization needed to find a permanent faciliy for its storage and operations. Later that month, a local business organization donated the use of its warehouse building to long beach community table. Once long beach community table moved its administrative operations that warehouse site, the organization now had greater storage capacity, offices, and a small classroom. This allowed it to hold meetings, schedule educational workshops, and support its volunteers.

In-kind donated rent expense = -$50000

In-kind Donated Rent

In june 2019, the organization was donated the use of a warehouse building. The value of the donated rent was $6,000 per month. For two months, the organizaiton also was donated the use of a second warehouse on the same property as the first warehouse. The value of the donated rent of the second warehouse was $4,000 per month.these donations resulted in a total of donated facilities use of $50,000 in 2019. The donated rent revenue from the donated facilities has been shown as a reconciling item on schedule xi, page 12, line 6. The donated rent expense amount has been shown as a reconiliing item on schedule xi, page 12, line 9.

BUT THE ORGANIZATION NEEDED TO FIND A PERMANENT FACILIY FOR ITS STORAGE AND OPERATIONS. LATER THAT MONTH, A LOCAL BUSINESS ORGANIZATION DONATED THE USE OF ITS WAREHOUSE BUILDING TO LONG BEACH COMMUNITY TABLE. ONCE LONG BEACH COMMUNITY TABLE MOVED ITS ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS THAT WAREHOUSE SITE, THE ORGANIZATION NOW HAD GREATER STORAGE CAPACITY, OFFICES, AND A SMALL CLASSROOM.
