Blixt locally grown, grows goodness with the arts. We specialize in community building, education and engagement, and the stimulation of economic development through the integration of local arts and culture into all facets of life. We collaborate with communities to lift up hometown assets, and champion creatives as vital contributors and leaders in vibrant rural spaces. In our work, we explore important issues in society that may not be easy to discuss. We use the arts as a conduit for having conversations about these issues, and we strive to include the voices that are often unheard, including young people, senior citizens, rural populations, and those experiencing poverty, grief, or isolation. Current programs include: homegrown theatre camp: virtual theatre camps are set up to give students at home the ability to put on their own play for their family or friends. The camps are entirely free, and available to students of any age. Captain soapman: this covid-19 resource for children and families is available for free on youtube, with accompanying social-emotional curriculum on the blixt locally grown website. The dream switch, in collaboration with nebraska community foundation (ncf): although in-person concerts have been postponed until 2021 for health and safety reasons, we are working on virtual and socially distanced engagement activities alongside our partner communities. Goodnesstories: this is a virtual service that can be purchased by anyone to commemorate a special milestone, such as a birthday, anniversary, or graduation. The service includes an interview, a verbatim transcript and a personalized piece of word art. Project based learning: we are currently in the planning phase with community learning centers at three lps middle schools to create a project-based learning experience in spring 2021. We also manage an annual blanket drive, which runs from october to february. To date, we have provided over 1,080 new or homemade blankets to students and their families in our five partner schools.
