Mission

THE TRUST WAS INCORPORATED MAY 31, 2018 AND RECEIVED APPROVAL AS A SECTION 501(c)(3) PUBLIC CHARITY UNDER SECTION 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) ON MAY 30,2019. IT'S PRIMARY PURPOSE IS TO FUND THE PRESERVATION AND RESTORATION OF MAINE'S LIGHTHOUSES, INCLUDING PROVIDING PUBLIC ACCESS AND EDUCATION. OUR INTIAL EFFORTS HAVE BEEN TO OBTAIN MAINE STATE APPROVAL OF A NEW SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATE, THE SALE OF WHICH WILL FUND THE ORGANIZATION'S PRIMARY PURPOSE. THAT APPROVAL, IN THE FORM OF LEGISLATION, WAS DELAYED FOR A YEAR DUE TO THE COVID-19 SHUTDOWN OF MAINE'S 129TH LEGISLATURE. IT WAS FINALLY APPROVED IN THE SPRING OF 2021 (LD266) BY THE 130TH LEGISLATURE. SALE OF THE NEW PLATE COMMENCED IN OCTOBER OF 2021. THE TRUST DID NOT START RECEIVING FUNDS FROM THE STATE UNTIL 2022. NO GRANTS WERE MADE IN 2021.
