“The following initiatives span scientific research, media, education & engagement initiatives to further our collective scientific and educational understanding, engagement and protection of the oceans: research vessel: a world class scientific research vessel with specialized equipment that enables the exploration, scientific research and documentation of the oceans. The ship is designed to enable scientific research into heretofore unexplored areas of the oceans, to document that exploration and the scientific discoveries from such exploration. Oceanx media creates, produces and distributes educational media and other documentation aimed at inspiring populations globally to better understand and protect the oceans. Red sea mission: in 2021, oref organized an expedition with the national center for wildlife (ncw) whose mission is to develop and implement plans to address the threats to terrestrial and marine wildlife with the aim of restoring the ecological balance of natural ecosystems. Oref, ncw and scientists from a local university spent the latter part of 2021 planning for an unprecedented four-leg research expedition in the red sea that will cover the entire 1,000-miles of the red sea. The expedition will undertake a comprehensive and exhaustive study of red sea habitat diversity, recognizing that this is an important biodiverse and underxplored part of the ocean. Ocean exploration television series: collaboration with scientific and media organizations to create a six-episode series with ancillary educational and other outreach activities. The series is focused on the scientific exploration of the ocean, the scientists who engage on such exploration and how they tackle challenges that arise from seeking to solve some of the oceans' greatest outstanding mysteries, with the aim of engaging audiences globally on the importance of understanding, appreciating and protecting the oceans. On-location exploration, research, filming and production was carried out in three locations: bahamas / dominican republic, the azores and svalbard in the north pole. Young explorers program: an educational program intended to expose young people with an interest in ocean exploration to scientific research and communications of the oceans. The program has an emphasis on recruiting students and educators from underrepresented groups. The program included four components: 1) conduct oceanographic and marine biological studies 2) produce visual media (short form digital and social media) surrounding the experience 3) be a part of ship operations including working with the various crew departments and 4) partake in lectures from on ship and off ship with experts in ocean exploration science, media, ship operations and ocean policy. Crayola experience: oref launched a collaboration with crayola on an immersive traveling experience to help educate, engage and inspire thousands of students on the importance of ocean exploration and protection. Through this collaboration, oref worked with crayola to re-theme various traveling experiences to include ocean themes which expopsed the scientific background on the missions and ocean wildlife. These themes were incorporated into five crayola experience locations in florida, pennsylvania, arizona, texas and at the mall of america in minnesota, which included exploration through submarine pods, interactive experience with corals, giant squid education and photo opportunities, science footage portals and crayola experience home adventure kits. The aim of this effort was to educate and engage attendees about the value and importance of the oceans, in furtherance of oref's social welfare purpose.”
