Active cultures works with a diverse array of cultural producers across the arts and foodways communities: interdisciplinary artists and food practitioners, at the early to mid-stages of their careers, who too often lack adequate support, be it a fitting context to develop and present their work, or to intersect with diverse publics and new collaborators in meaningful and lasting ways. Our three core programs-artist projects, public programs, and publishing-were designed for and with the needs of these communities in mind: our artist projects supports artists whose work and values align with our mission, by providing them with funding, expertise, and opportunities to present performances, workshops, conversations, meals, and more, privileging long term and series-based projects not supported by conventional arts institutions. Our public programs prioritize making our work accessible, relevant, and responsive to the diverse audiences in los angeles, and where applicable, across the country. Our programming is intentionally designed to be free or low-cost in an effort to include and honor the communities who make los angeles the vibrant city it is. Our publishing program amplifies our other programs for national and international arts and foodways audiences by commissioning writing from visual artists, chefs, historians, and curators to further enrich the work of all active cultures constituencies.”
