“The Indigenize film project comes from seeing the need to improve relations misperceptions and ultimately control our collective narrative as Indigenous peoples. It is imperative that we stand strong with our sisters always in recognizing Indigenous women and their inherent strength in leadership and who are actively working to shift the paradigm for a positive future. In this short film project we aim to promote Indigenous women empowerment focusing on leadership development and strengthening the power of 5 Indigenous matriarchal leaders in the country in their respective professions. Indigenous women are underrepresented in many areas especially in mainstream media and we hope with this project we can educate and broaden perspectives and show others how important it is to see Indigenous women in a positive light. This film will help shape our collective narrative as Indigenous People and allow the gap of uncertainty negative stereotypes and lack of understanding to be restored with positive stories from women who are making lasting impacts on their homelands. We want the world to see what we see which is fierce beautiful talented Indigenous women who are guided by ancestral knowledge and are creating a positive impact for all life.”
