Part III, line 3

During March of 2020 the food security program revised in person protocols to adhere to recommended guidelines to prevent the transmission of COVID and purchased PPE items and required all staff and volunteers to use them on any HUG worksite. The ongoing pandemic caused a significant disruption to programming and in person distribution of food was canceled and replaced with contactless deliveries and mutual aid to community members. Due to the pandemic wellness education programmatic activities shifted quite dramatically post March 2020. We mobilized to provide thousands of care kits to help with symptoms of COVID-19 and created the Indigenous Herbalist Apprenticeship pathway which is a program of Indigenous healers to learn traditional medicine at no cost. Because Canoe Journey was cancelled due to the pandemic we did not attend Canoe Journey and spent a lot of time re-organizing and distributing medicine through new pathways like pop-up community clinics or sending them to community partners to be distributed. We also started a new container garden program where 5 gallon food and medicine gardens were distributed throughout the communities we are a part of and serve.
