Mission

To provide educational, informational, and social opportunities for those in the flying community. Allows members to fly planes to places of their chooseing, provides safety seminars, and provides opportunities for those with an aviation interest, whether a current pilot or not, to gather and share.

Program Services

A flying club to provide flying services at a reasonable cost. In 2021 there were 661 hours flown by club members. Due to COVID, there was an increase in pilots seeking flight training and time in aircraft. Monthly meetings include safety training and networking opportunities among the aviation community. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.$0$0
Multiple times through the year, the club will participate in EAA's Young Eagles which flies children ages 8 to 17 at no cost. There is a shortage of pilots and mechanics. This introduces youth to aviation and the possibilities for a future vocation. In 2021, there were not many Young Eagle flights due to COVID. Approximately 5 children flown.$0$0
As part of the social aspect, we do Fly and Drive events in which we will visit neighboring airports and aviation items of interest (in the past, glider rides, lunch). We also do a community chili cookoff in the fall where the public is invited to the hangar and we take food to those on the airfield that are not able to attend.$0$0

ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0Las Cruces Aviators is a relatively new 501c7. 2021 is the first year in which a 990EZ is required (instead of the postcard). The treasurer at the time, did not file any returns for 2021; therefore, this return is late. I have taken over the books and the 2021 return is being filed today as well as the 2022 return. Going forward, the Las Cruces Aviators will use a paid preparer so this doesn't happen in the future. As a not-for-profit, the Las Cruces Aviators requests a one time forgiveness for the late return. To pay the penalty along with increasing expenses such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance it would be very cost prohibitive to an organization that is serving its community, making safety in flying a priority, introductions children (and adults) to flying, and allows for economical rates so that pilots may build hours and continue to fill the void in the aviation industry while building a networking environment.
