ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt0We were unaware that the rules had changed and we were now required to file online, so we took the reasonable action of downloading the IRS form 990 and related schedules for 2020, which were readily available. At no point during the process of searching for the forms did we see a notice that we were not supposed to use these paper forms, nor did we see it written on those forms. Thus, it was reasonable for us to file the form 990 on paper as we thought it was required. When we received notice in late December in the mail that the forms could no longer be filed on paper, we immediately visited the IRS website where independent but approved companies to E-file with were listed. After choosing a company and going to their website to begin filing, the website stated that the IRS website was down for repairs and would not be up again until "sometime in January" so we would be unable to E-file at that time. Having checked again today now that it's January, I saw that we are now able to Efile and so I did so.
