Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Gita Gopal and Prabandham Gopal have a family relationship (spouses)

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The complete copy of Form 990 (including all schedules) is sent to all the current Board members and Officers of the organization to review and provide feedback two weeks prior to submitting the final form.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All the Board members (Directors) and Officers of the organization are required to review the Conflict of Interest policy every year and acknowledge that they comply with the policy. They also agree to disclose/update annually any and all information regarding their interests and those of their family members that could give rise to such conflicts of interest. If a potential conflict is reported to the Board, the policy has clear instructions for a) Evaluation of potential conflict including "self-dealing" transactions, b) Procedures for addressing a conflict of interest, including appointment of disinterested person or committee to investigate, if appropriate, and c) Voting on a transaction with potential conflict, and d) Remedial procedures (disciplinary or corrective) for violations of the Conflict of Interest Policy.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The founding documents including Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws, as well as tax returns are available to the Public on the State of California Registry of Charitable Trusts. The Bylaws also includes the full Conflict of Interest policy in Article VIII. Copies of tax returns and Tax Determination Letter are also available on the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search as well as Guidestar. Other Financials including Annual Reports are available on Guidestar as well as on A Future for Every Child's website (https://afutureforeverychild.org). We also provide any of these documents to the Public on request.

IRS990/Desc0We continued to strengthen and expand our Launchpad for Adulthood program to help transition orphaned and vulnerable youth in India from institutional care to independence. We added two new NGO partners, Udayan Care and Sevalaya, in addition to Catalysts for Social Action (CSA), our original partner on the ground. Having three partners helps us scale both in numbers and in geography. A total of 278 youth in six states across India were enrolled into the program at the end of the year, 22 youth had completed the training and 15 were placed into jobs. We also added a Digital Outreach component to the program which allowed the youth to improve their marketability by learning spoken English over a smartphone. This was especially impactful during the summer of 2020 when India was undergoing a COVID surge and jobs had all but disappeared, colleges had shut down, and everything giving structure to their lives had been affected.
