FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

The rocky mountain welcome center (rmwc) is an immigrant-led shared space not-for-profit organization with the mission of fostering intercultural learning, understanding and integration among immigrants, refugees and the colorado residents.

Form 990, Part III

Our springs academy soccer program provided training to over 80 children, with sessions held four days a week. We continued programming and vital initiatives, including culturally appropriate food assistance and rental assistance programs. Key initiatives and accomplishments: programs for education and economic integration: - kindergarten prep: this parent/child program prepares immigrant and refugee youth ages 3-5 for kindergarten. - rocky mountain readers: a literacy program for elementary children reading one or more years below grade level. - girls rule the world: a female-specific empowerment program offering a 10-week, culturally specific curriculum focusing on biculturalism, values, identity, health, and wellness for immigrant and first- generation young women. Programs for basic needs: - rent assistance: provides one month of rent assistance, up to 1,000, to immigrant and refugee families behind in rent. - ethnic food assistance: partners with ethnic restaurants and grocery stores to provide culturally appropriate food assistance, including halal foods. - care team: the community, advocacy, resources, and education team assists immigrants and refugees in connecting with organizations and services. Culturally appropriate information for social change: - cultural navigation for covid: cultural navigators in dari, oromo, and somali help navigate covid-19 information for afghan, ethiopian, and somali populations. - weekly spanish radio segment: "perspectivas" airs within the show "hablemos hoy con rodolfo cardenas" on 1150 am every thursday at 8 am. - covid-19 information: developed quarterly videos and posters in multiple languages, including dari, somali, oromo, and spanish, providing updated covid-19 information. Programs for holistic health: - healing through arts and nature: provides young women ages 15-20 with a space for peace and healing through community-building and nature activities. - springs academy soccer program: offers youth ages 5 to 15 opportunities for physical activity and community engagement through soccer. - mental health program for migrants: addresses the mental health needs of migrants through culturally sensitive mental health services. This program offers individual therapy and group educational sessions, mental health workshops, and community support groups. The focus is on reducing stigma around mental health, teaching coping strategies, and providing access to professional mental health resources. Welcoming communities and intercultural understanding: - understanding how to work with immigrants and refugees: a program designed for organizations new to working with immigrant and refugee populations. - forum series: every quarter, rmwc organizes a forum focusing on a theme relevant to immigrants and refugees. Each event highlights a personal narrative from an immigrant or refugee, complemented by perspectives from a subject matter expert. Rmwc's overarching aim is to ensure that immigrants and refugees have access to the resources, information, and services they need to integrate successfully. Our youth integration programming, a key initiative, uses outdoor activities, group education, and expressive art to support the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of immigrant and refugee youth, fostering a sense of belonging and resilience. By creating safe spaces and strong relationships between participants and caring adults, rmwc seeks to overcome cultural and economic barriers to mental health, increase resilience, self-esteem, and self-worth among participants, and develop their vision toward the future and personal goals. The skills learned through our healing through arts and nature program enable participants to grow into adulthood with a nurturing community and a strong understanding of mental health. Rmwc remains dedicated to positively influencing social determinants of health and counteracting negative acculturation stress for immigrants and refugees, ensuring they have the s

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0TO ENSURE RESPONSIBLE AND EFFECTIVE USE OF GRANT FUNDS, OUR ORGANIZATION HAS ESTABLISHED A COMPREHENSIVE MONITORING PROCESS THAT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES: 1.DETAILED BUDGET PLANNING AND APPROVAL: BEFORE GRANT FUNDS ARE ALLOCATED, A DETAILED BUDGET IS DEVELOPED AND APPROVED BY KEY STAKEHOLDERS, INCLUDING PROJECT MANAGERS AND THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR. THIS BUDGET OUTLINES ALL ANTICIPATED EXPENSES AND ENSURES ALIGNMENT WITH GRANT OBJECTIVES. 2.FINANCIAL REPORTING AND DOCUMENTATION: WE MAINTAIN ACCURATE AND UP-TO- DATE FINANCIAL RECORDS OF ALL GRANT-RELATED TRANSACTIONS. MONTHLY FINANCIAL REPORTS ARE GENERATED TO TRACK EXPENDITURES AGAINST THE APPROVED BUDGET. ALL EXPENSES ARE DOCUMENTED WITH RECEIPTS, INVOICES, AND OTHER RELEVANT RECORDS, WHICH ARE REVIEWED REGULARLY BY OUR FINANCE TEAM. 3.INTERNAL CONTROLS AND OVERSIGHT: TO SAFEGUARD GRANT FUNDS, WE HAVE ESTABLISHED INTERNAL CONTROLS SUCH AS SEGREGATION OF DUTIES, APPROVAL HIERARCHIES, AND PERIODIC AUDITS. EXPENDITURES REQUIRE PRE-APPROVAL FROM AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL, AND ACCESS TO GRANT FUNDS IS RESTRICTED TO DESIGNATED STAFF MEMBERS. 4.QUARTERLY PERFORMANCE REVIEWS: QUARTERLY PERFORMANCE REVIEWS ARE CONDUCTED TO ASSESS THE PROGRESS OF FUNDED ACTIVITIES AGAINST PLANNED OBJECTIVES. THESE REVIEWS INCLUDE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE CHECKS TO ENSURE FUNDS ARE BEING UTILIZED EFFECTIVELY AND WITHIN THE SCOPE OF THE GRANT AGREEMENT. 5.COMPLIANCE CHECKS AND REPORTING: WE REGULARLY REVIEW OUR COMPLIANCE WITH GRANT TERMS AND CONDITIONS. ANY VARIANCES OR DEVIATIONS FROM THE APPROVED BUDGET ARE PROMPTLY ADDRESSED. ADDITIONALLY, WE PREPARE AND SUBMIT REQUIRED REPORTS TO THE GRANTOR, DETAILING THE USE OF FUNDS, PROGRAM OUTCOMES, AND ANY CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN IF NECESSARY. 6.STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATION AND TRANSPARENCY: WE MAINTAIN OPEN COMMUNICATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS, INCLUDING GRANTORS, BOARD MEMBERS, AND PROGRAM STAFF, TO PROVIDE UPDATES ON THE STATUS OF FUND UTILIZATION. TRANSPARENCY IS ENSURED THROUGH REGULAR MEETINGS, FINANCIAL DISCLOSURES, AND ACCESSIBLE RECORDS. 7.AUDIT AND EVALUATION: ANNUAL AUDITS ARE CONDUCTED BY EXTERNAL AUDITORS TO EVALUATE THE FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND USE OF GRANT FUNDS. AUDIT FINDINGS ARE REVIEWED BY THE MANAGEMENT TEAM, AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS ARE IMPLEMENTED IF ANY DISCREPANCIES ARE IDENTIFIED. THESE PROCEDURES ENSURE THAT GRANT FUNDS ARE MANAGED RESPONSIBLY, ALIGN WITH THE INTENDED PURPOSES, AND ACHIEVE THE DESIRED OUTCOMES. OUR COMMITMENT TO ROBUST FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT HELPS MAINTAIN ACCOUNTABILITY AND -TRUST WITH OUR FUNDING PARTNERS.
