Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Schedule O:

990-ez Part III line 31 supplement to follow (Additional program services with accomplishments for 2023): (1) Grants to support pediatric oncology nurses: In March, we paid $460 to 3 nurses at Methodist Childrens Hospital to send them to the Texas Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology Conference. In May we paid $2,000 to 20 nurses at Methodist Childrens Hospital to send them to a conference by the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses. We also provided a $1,000 support package to a palliative care nurse who helps patients at Dell Childrens Hospital who are in need of hospice care. Thus, in total, we paid $3,460 in grants to help support pediatric oncology nurse education in 2023. (2) The Admission Day support program provides a gift card to a nearby restaurant for patients who are transferring from the outpatient clinic to the hospital for inpatient care. The social work teams delivered up to 325 gift cards to patients in 2023 for a total of $4,975. (3) Bone Marrow Transplant Support Bags provide some comfort and joy in the midst of the extended hospital stay associated with a bone marrow transplant. Inside are personalized gifts that can help brighten the days in such long hospital stays. In 2023, we provided 8 of these to children at Methodist Childrens Hospital in San Antonio for a total of $1,600. (4) When families are given the tragic news that their child is at the end of their life, we provide support boxes with items that are meant to provide some measure of stress relief and comfort. We provided support to 11 families facing this terrible situation in 2023 for a total of $2,750. (5) We offer gift cards to families who are having to go through a day of scans to check on the progress of their childs cancer or the effect of their childs treatments. These are meant to provide something to look forward to after the anxiety of such an ordeal. Five families asked for scan day support in 2023 for a total of $240. (6) We meet periodically with the nurses and social work teams at Dell Childrens Hospital and Methodist Childrens Hospital, and we ask them of any needs that they have that we might be able to help with. In 2023, we were able to provide multiple items for teens and children to use at the outpatient clinic as they received treatments and check-ups, including: art supplies, books, headphones, buzzy bees (pain relief for shots), etc. We estimate that these requests provided support for between 200-300 patients in 2023 for a total of $4,629.67.
