Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The mission/purpose of the organizing alliance (toa) is to educate and train based/civic leaders from the african american community, while embracing other historically marginalized communities (inclusive of diverse racial, ethnic, gender, and religious backgrounds)on civic engagement and public policy advocacy as it pertains to social, economic, and environmental justice. Through teams of volunteers from individual partnerships, toa solicits the concerns of the people through town hall meetings, workshops, and community forums in the african american community to determine the agenda for policy issues. Through faith and community partnerships, toa will build upon an already strong contingency for successful voter registration, civic engagement, clean energy and advancing public policies.

The Organizing Alliance (TOAs) primary goal in 2020 was to run a voter registration effort with a specific focus on the African American vote in Clark County, along with informing the community on clean energy efforts for the upcoming legislation sessions in 2021. The Organizing Alliance faced two challenges, one was with COVID-19 and the second was keeping the staff safe. The uncertain trajectory of COVID19 has led to significant impacts on everyone in the community, especially the folks working outside. Given the critical role of canvassers, TOA had to allow our staff to work from home. It was important for TOA to recalibrate our information strategies to help the public understand how important it was to get a vaccine shot. TOA helped with other communities organizations to set-up vaccine shots in the African American community. One major aspect of informing the public was to help them with terminology that they could understand. Accomplishments:TOA hosted seven (7) Zoom meetings with the public, informing them about COVID19 and about clean energy issues in the African American Community.TOA hosted several phone banks programs which resulted in 11,780 calls, and we exceeded our Texting Program for the year by 34,244 texts. TOA exceeded our goals in 2020, and we had a highly successful year.$49,746$97,917
