We empower our friends to provide for their own food needs through backyard gardening, a community garden and educational workshops. To help our friends further stabilize their food source, we launched growing with silo, a backyard gardening program that has made, installed and filled 286 raised garden beds in the backyards of the most vulnerable people in oxford. These mini vegetable gardens empower our friends to grow their own food and learn about sustainable growing practices. To further empower friends growing their own food, we created the growing together community garden-a place where friends and neighbors come together to grow food for themselves and others. Produce grown in the garden is given away on the free produce stand and last year we grew and gave away 1,300 pounds of fresh food. An average of 130 people visit the garden each month to volunteer, attend an educational workshop or live music event.

Silo seeks out and befriends those who are experiencing homelessness in our area-living in cars, tents and couch surfing-and helps them move toward stable housing. Silo also provides emergency support in the form of rental and utility assistance to ensure housing security for those on the verge of losing their home.

WHEN DELIVERING FOOD AND PERSONAL ITEMS, WE FIND THAT RELATIONAL CONNECTION IS ONE OF THE MOST HOPEFUL THINGS WE BRING TO PEOPLE'S DOORSTEP.

THESE MINI VEGETABLE GARDENS EMPOWER OUR FRIENDS TO GROW THEIR OWN FOOD AND LEARN ABOUT SUSTAINABLE GROWING PRACTICES. TO FURTHER EMPOWER FRIENDS GROWING THEIR OWN FOOD, WE CREATED THE GROWING TOGETHER COMMUNITY GARDEN-A PLACE WHERE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS COME TOGETHER TO GROW FOOD FOR THEMSELVES AND OTHERS. PRODUCE GROWN IN THE GARDEN IS GIVEN AWAY ON THE FREE PRODUCE STAND AND LAST YEAR WE GREW AND GAVE AWAY 1,300 POUNDS OF FRESH FOOD. AN AVERAGE OF 130 PEOPLE VISIT THE GARDEN EACH MONTH TO VOLUNTEER, ATTEND AN EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOP OR LIVE MUSIC EVENT.
