To educate empower and advocate to the Hispanic Immigrant community help with resources advocacy and education in the rare diseases specializing in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Family Support Resources - Often families navigating the complex needs it requires to care for their child seek assistance from others in the community. Our resources program will provide this assistance on phone calls texts connecting in person and any other type needed to serve those seeking help. In 2022 our resource program provided over 200 backpacks to newly diagnosed families and around-the-clock assistance to 80 families. We will provide the families with the accompaniment and necessary support that another family can only provide in the same situation. This program shares information and manages the appropriate coping strategies therapeutic possibilities leading physicians and resources our partners offer.$0$8,674
Advocacy Awareness and DEI Efforts - To expand our advocacy efforts we have put together programs that will help leverage our organization strengthen the Hispanic voice and ensure our community has a seat at the table for better salutations and outcomes. In 2023 our focus will be on creating public policies for healthcare access to therapies regulatory processes for rare disease therapies and strengthening the Newborn screening and Diagnosis petition which can ensure that patients receive earlier access to life-saving diagnostic opportunities.$0$6,471
Hispanic Community Education - At Akari we understand how important it is for the Hispanic Community to have a vital resource that can provide accurate and relevant information on medical advice and research updates when dealing with a rare disease. In 2022 we hosted over 22 Spanish-speaking webinars and two pharmaceutical partner presentations on many topics covering care and clinical trials. We had over 550+ individuals registered from the Hispanic community to participate in these webinars across the United States and Mexico. Latin America.$0$5,641
