IRS990/Desc0Direct and indirect distribution of donated and purchased food: The Idaho Foodbank operates facilities in Boise, Lewiston, and Pocatello through which it distributes donated and purchased food to more than 200 501(c)(3) community partners in 39 of 44 Idaho counties. Community partners include, pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, and supplemental food programs. In rural communities that lack a local pantry or food bank partner, The Idaho Foodbank conducts scheduled mobile pantry deliveries of fresh, dry, and frozen food. In the most recent fiscal year, The Idaho Foodbank distributed 14,950,606 pounds of food, the equivalent of 12,458,838 meals. More than 90% of that distributed food was donated. Every one dollar contributed, provides for meals to a hungry Idahoan. When food must be purchased, volume buying power maximizes the use of donor contributions. The Idaho Foodbank works with growers, processors, and wholesale and retail distributors to ensure that surplus food items that would otherwise be sent to the local landfill are collected and distributed for the purpose of feeding hungry people. Much of the work involved in the collection, repacking, and distribution of food is conducted by volunteers. Last year, 17,396 people invested 47,857 hours in helping provide hunger relief to their neighbors in need.
