As part of a consulting engagement conducted in late 2016 and early 2017, BCG conducted a full compensation review and analysis for all positions at Helena by cross-referencing comparable positions and salaries across a basket of comparable organizations. Due to resource constraints, all our compensation to date has been significantly below these levels.”

The project will produce a unique experiment in US democracy. In September 2019, A1R will bring together a group of more than 500 registered American voters--scientifically designed to be an almost perfect microcosm demographically, geographically, and ideologically of the United States electorate--to a hotel just outside Dallas. There, the participants will have informed, professionally moderated discussions about the five issues at the forefront of the American political conscience: the economy, the environment, foreign policy, health care, and immigration. To aid in the discussions, we will supply attendees with briefing documents prepared and vetted by experts and advisors from both sides of the aisle, and bring in leading policy thinkers to speak with the participants and take their questions. Our goal is to improve the health of liberal democracy by advancing a better mechanism (Helena Member James Fishkin's Deliberative Democracy process) for allowing large groups of people to make high quality democratic decisions about candidates and policy issues. We plan to spend all restricted funds allocated to A1R in 2019.

IRS990ScheduleC/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Our 'Shield' Project aims to protect the US electrical grid from cyberattack, solar flares, natural disasters, and other potential threats. As part of this project, California Senator Bob Hertzberg requested our assistance drafting and passing legislation to protect the CA electrical grid (California SB 1076 and SJR 20) in 2018. We had a handful of meetings/calls with the Senator's staff, and with others (e.g. CA State Senator Ben Allen), and arranged for a series of letters to be sent to then CA Governor Jerry Brown in support of the bill. In addition, we interacted with a handful of White House, DoD, and DoE officials to advise on what became the President's Executive Order on Coordinating National Resilience to Electromagnetic Pulses (March 26th, 2019). Some funds were spent to pay for staff time and travel costs associated with these meetings. The total was a diminimous portion of our overall staff time and resources.
