IN FY2025, BTC ENGAGED 195 EDUCATORS AND EDUCATION LEADERS THROUGH A SERIES OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SESSIONS, AFFINITY GATHERINGS, AND INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. THESE INITIATIVES CREATED AFFIRMING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS WHERE EDUCATORS DEEPENED THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE, EXPLORED CULTURALLY GROUNDED PEDAGOGIES, AND STRENGTHENED THEIR PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY. BTCS I3 PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SERIES PROVIDED ONGOING VIRTUAL SESSIONS FOCUSED ON INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE PEDAGOGY, AND EDUCATOR WELL-BEING. PARTICIPANTS CONSISTENTLY REPORTED STRONG ENGAGEMENT AND AFFIRMATION THROUGH POST-SESSION SURVEYS. FOR EXAMPLE, EDUCATORS RATED SESSIONS 4.77 OUT OF 5 FOR OVERALL ENGAGEMENT, 4.92 FOR FEELING HONORED AS A BLACK TEACHER, AND 4.77 FOR INTEREST IN LEARNING MORE ABOUT BTCS PEDAGOGICAL FRAMEWORK. PARTICIPANTS ALSO REPORTED THAT THE SESSIONS HELPED THEM RECOGNIZE THEIR STRENGTHS AS EDUCATORS AND CONSIDER NEW INSTRUCTIONAL APPROACHES FOR SUPPORTING BLACK STUDENTS. BTC ALSO CONVENED AFFINITY SPACE GATHERINGS DESIGNED TO STRENGTHEN CONNECTION, REFLECTION, AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AMONG BLACK EDUCATORS. SURVEY RESPONSES HIGHLIGHTED THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERACTIVE AND COLLABORATIVE LEARNING FORMATS, INCLUDING PEER DIALOGUE, BREAKOUT DISCUSSIONS, AND SHARED PROBLEM-SOLVING. EDUCATORS CONSISTENTLY EMPHASIZED THAT THESE SPACES SUPPORTED BOTH PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND PERSONAL WELL-BEING, REINFORCING THE VALUE OF COMMUNITY-CENTERED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR BLACK TEACHERS. IN ADDITION, BTC CONTINUED THE K3 EARLY LITERACY ACADEMY, A MULTI-YEAR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROGRAM SUPPORTING TEACHERS IN STRENGTHENING CULTURALLY GROUNDED LITERACY INSTRUCTION. PARTICIPANT SURVEYS SHOWED STRONG OUTCOMES ACROSS KEY MEASURES OF EDUCATOR DEVELOPMENT. EDUCATORS RATED THE ACADEMYS IMPACT ON BLACK TEACHER IDENTITY AT APPROXIMATELY 9.4 OUT OF 10, KNOWLEDGE OF BTCS PEDAGOGICAL FRAMEWORK AT APPROXIMATELY 9.0, AND INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS ALIGNED TO THE PEDAGOGY AT APPROXIMATELY 9.25. PARTICIPANTS ALSO REPORTED SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE EFFECTS ON EDUCATOR MINDSET AND WELL-BEING, WITH WELL-BEING SCORES AVERAGING 9.62 OUT OF 10. QUALITATIVE FEEDBACK ACROSS PROGRAMS FURTHER REINFORCED THESE RESULTS. EDUCATORS DESCRIBED BTC PROGRAMMING AS BOTH INTELLECTUALLY RIGOROUS AND CULTURALLY AFFIRMING, NOTING THAT THE EXPERIENCES HELPED THEM IMPLEMENT CULTURALLY RELEVANT CURRICULUM MATERIALS, DESIGN MORE STUDENT-CENTERED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS, AND MORE INTENTIONALLY CONNECT THEIR TEACHING TO THE CULTURAL AND INTELLECTUAL TRADITIONS OF BLACK COMMUNITIES. THROUGH THESE INITIATIVES, BTC CONTINUED BUILDING A GROWING NETWORK OF EDUCATORS COMMITTED TO STRENGTHENING INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICE, ADVANCING CULTURALLY GROUNDED TEACHING, AND IMPROVING EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES FOR BLACK STUDENTS. |
