Change in Activities - La Escuela Libre de Permacultura at Alma Verde During the reporting period ending in 2023, Trek Relief launched a new, significant initiative: helping fund the La Escuela Libre de Permacultura (The Free School of Permaculture), located at Alma Verde. This endeavor marks a pivotal expansion of our mission to empower communities through sustainable practices and education, reflecting our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and resilience. Background and Mission: For seven years, Alma Verde has served as a beacon of sustainable living and permaculture education, attracting thousands of visitors seeking to learn and live in harmony with nature. Recognizing the critical importance of permaculture knowledge in todays environmental and social landscape, we decided to help support the dream for La Escuela Libre de Permacultura. Our mission with this free school is to democratize access to permaculture and sustainable living education, making it available to all interested individuals, especially focusing on the local youth in our region. Program Description and Objectives: The Free School of Permaculture was conceived out of the urgent need to accelerate the dissemination of ecological, economical, and sustainable living practices. Our goal is to create an educational space that: - Offers dynamic and hands-on learning experiences aligned with permaculture's ethical principles, particularly emphasizing the fair distribution of resources. - Provides courses free of charge or based on voluntary/ethical contributions, ensuring broad access to this vital knowledge. - Engages in fair practices for both educators and students, incorporating alternative economic models such as gift economy, time banks, and barter systems. Infrastructure and Implementation: The schools classroom infrastructure is being constructed using bioconstruction methods to create a circular space conducive to learning and reflection. This space will include bale walls covered with mud, a reciprocal roof with a living deck, a large rocket stove, and a beautifully crafted wooden floor. The construction is set to take place from November 2023 to May 2025, with a budget of approximately $50,000 USD, relying on volunteer labor under the guidance of expert builders. Partnerships and Community Engagement: Our efforts at Alma Verde and the establishment of La Escuela Libre de Permacultura are supported through partnerships with local schools, organizations, and the broader community. These collaborations aim to foster a center of learning and being, with a particular emphasis on empowering the regions youth through education in outdoor, lifestyle, and health disciplines. Fiscal Sponsorship: This project benefits from the fiscal sponsorship of Trek Relief, a 501(c)(3) USA nonprofit organization, allowing for US tax-deductible donations. This partnership underscores our shared values and commitment to promoting sustainable ecology projects in the Aysén region.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3Change in Activities - La Escuela Libre de Permacultura at Alma Verde During the reporting period ending in 2023, Trek Relief launched a new, significant initiative: helping fund the La Escuela Libre de Permacultura (The Free School of Permaculture), located at Alma Verde.
