Mission and Program Overview

Mission

MATE INSPIRATION FOR INNOVATION (MATE II) is formed to inspire and challenge students to learn and creatively apply science, technology, art, engineering and math to solving real-world problems in a way that strengthens critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
MATE Inspiration for Innovation (MATE II)'s international ROV (remotely operated vehicle or underwater robot) competitions challenge students to learn and creatively apply STEM skills to solve real-world problems and strengthen their critical thinking, collaboration, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Each spring, more than 6,000 students in grades 4-16 participate in one of 31 regional events that take place around the world (see www.marinetech.org/regional-contest) and feed into the international championship in June (visit https://vimeo.com/XXX-XX-XXXX for the 2017 international highlight video). Under the guidance of teachers and mentors, students spend anywhere from 500 to 2,500 hours engineering their ROVs. MATE II provides grants to certain if its foreign regional coordinators who assist with organizing its ROV competitors outside of the Unites States. The funds provided to these regional coordinators come from the registration fees paid for participation in the applicable regional competition. MATE II has adopted a office of foreign assets control policy to ensure that no recent recipient is listed on the OFAC list. Most recipients are educational institutions and organizations.$76,890-
