The Policy Academies training programs are free of cost for participating students. TPA covers airfare and lodging and provides a competitive stipend.Academy for Public Policy Analysis and Research with host partner Urban Institute:For over a decade, TPA has refined a program model that combines high-demand technical skills training, personally tailored research mentorship, exposure to scholars from leading think tanks and early career support for public policy scholars of color from historically exploited communities. Our programs are designed to connect The Policy Academies Fellows many of whom are the first in their families to attend college, to leading policy institutions in the United States. Each year, the Academy program drew on the research and policy expertise of over 75 leading scholars, practitioners, and policy officials across prominent institutions in DC and beyond. These influential experts served as research mentors, trainers, teachers, and connectors. Kijakazi Fellowship Program with host partner National Academy of Social Insurance:This new program will cultivate and accelerate the careers of emerging policy scholars whose work addresses the issues to which Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi has dedicated her stellar career. These will be one- or two-year research training programs for graduate student and will focus on racial and gender wealth gaps and structural racism in U.S. social insurance and related public policies. The fellowship will offer intensive full-time programming during the summer -- with additional remote research mentoring support and career guidance during the academic year. -- stay tuned!

IRS990ScheduleA/FactsAndCircumstancesTestTxt0Over the past three years, the policy academies (TPA) has secured funding from some of the nation's largest private foundations and continues to expand its private foundation donor base.As a new organization, this fundraising success is significant and provides a strong base of support on which to build and diversify its funding stream. At the outset, it is important to state that private foundation support will remain the primary source of funding for TPA because of its mission and appeal to the private foundation community. With that said, we will continue to identify and solicit private foundation support on an ongoing basis as a top priority. At this time, we are in various stages in the cultivation and solicitation process towardSecuring new or increased support from several foundations. Opportunities for support from the private foundation community remains strong with room to grow. The policy academies also receives some funding from individual donors. While not as significant as its funding from foundations, it is a base of support on which to build. We will explore ways to increase individual support through on-line appeals and special activities targeted to engage individuals.TPA recently hired a chief operating officer and senior vice president of special initiatives who has decades of professional fundraising experience. Together with the CEO and board of directors, a 2023 fundraising plan is prepared that outlines a strategy to further diversify TPA's revenue stream with funding from individual donors, corporate foundations, and if appropriate funding through government grants. The fundraising plan will take into consideration staff capacity to pursue each of these different funding streams which may require a substantial investment of time before they yield a sizeable amount ofRevenue for the organization. The fundraising plan will include lists of prospects for each category with projected funding amounts.Lastly, TPA will consider fundraising events to help diversify its funding base. Initially, we anticipate the fundraising events will be low-level and primarily held to cultivate and secure support from major individual donors.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0The policy academies' mission is to build and sustain meaningful diversity in public policy analysis and research by: cultivating the policy careers of young scholars and working with leading policy institutions to ensure research practice is grounded in racial equity.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1The Policy Academies' mission is to train, cultivate, and elevate new and diverse generations of racial equity and economic justice focused researchers and policy leaders from historically exploited communities -- and connect them to careers of impact. TPA uses its influence to carve new career pathways at leading policy institutions, create opportunities, build networks, and cultivate communities of support. With TPA's backing, these new leaders can more effectively contribute to the discourse and to shape powerful policy solutions that serve their communities ultimately shifting the policy field toward racial equity. TPA also collaborates with leading policy institutions to develop and promote research practices that are grounded in racial equity.
