“In 2020 we published a year-long series called hitting home, chronicling the well-being of five new mexican towns during the pandemic. In repeated visits and stories, we documented the economic, educational, and health- related changes that took place over an entire year. These and other stories detailed the toll of the coronavirus on the navajo nation and elsewhere throughout new mexico, where the most vulnerable were most affected. Our stories were published by every news outlet in new mexico and beyond, including the guardian, usa today, rolling stone and other publications. Our stories on illegal cannabis farms on the navajo nation found evidence of human trafficking and child labor, triggering state and federal investigations. We also introduced a daily photo essay called our lives now, documenting the impact of the coronavirus on the lives of new mexicans.”

THESE AND OTHER STORIES DETAILED THE TOLL OF THE CORONAVIRUS ON THE NAVAJO NATION AND ELSEWHERE THROUGHOUT NEW MEXICO, WHERE THE MOST VULNERABLE WERE MOST AFFECTED. OUR STORIES WERE PUBLISHED BY EVERY NEWS OUTLET IN NEW MEXICO AND BEYOND, INCLUDING THE GUARDIAN, USA TODAY, ROLLING STONE AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS. OUR STORIES ON ILLEGAL CANNABIS FARMS ON THE NAVAJO NATION FOUND EVIDENCE OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND CHILD LABOR, TRIGGERING STATE AND FEDERAL INVESTIGATIONS.
