Searchlight identified and explored extensive pfas contamination in a low- income neighborhood on the outside of santa fe. Our reporting addressed statewide public health risks in lee county and the southeastern part of the state due to airforce base contamination. We reported in depth on the ongoing health risks and the government's failure to respond. Two stories have delved into the lack of access in rural areas, specifically for immigrant populations and the closure of small hospitals in the northeastern and southeastern part of the state. We have found that the impact of the cost of malpractice insurance impacts both large and small hospitals, but disproportionately impacts smaller rural hospitals. A short-term effect of our work was a lawsuit filed in response to our pfas story. An immediate term impact is that searchlight was invited to be part of the carter center's mental health parity reporting collaborative in which only 11 newsrooms across the country were selected to participate. We will be producing three stories in 2025 about mental health needs across new mexico and these will be published through a wide set of partner media outlets that the carter center collaborates with. Searchlight is looking at the following outcomes from our reporting and data analysis: 1) increased funding requests for maternal and child health in the nm state budget 2) increased health funding requests for rural communities 3) increased racial and ethnic diversity among the decision makers for health policy. During and after the grant period, we expect that advocates and allies will utilize the critical pieces of data and research compiled and analyzed by searchlight. These important data pieces will allow advocates to better demonstrate community needs now and into the future. In next year's report, we will be able to better demonstrate how these big goals have played out legislatively and locally. Stories that capture the impact here are links to two stories that exemplify the work of our organization: https://searchlightnm.org/high-costs-malpractice-insurance-threaten-new- mexico-hospitals/ https://searchlightnm.org/life-death-or-deportation/ we are also pleased to reveal that searchlight reporter alicia inez guzmn was selected for the highly competitive ny times local investigations fellowship. The ny times works with the fellow in selecting editorial content, while also providing that all of ms. Guzmans published articles will be co-published by the new york times and searchlight.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt1SEARCHLIGHT IDENTIFIED AND EXPLORED EXTENSIVE PFAS CONTAMINATION IN A LOW- INCOME NEIGHBORHOOD ON THE OUTSIDE OF SANTA FE.
