Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Pt XI

Change in net asset of $1,174 is due to reclassification of transaction considered revenue, when it is supposed to be accounts reciveable. There is also $2 that was caused by rounding issues.

Pt VI, Line 11B

All financials are reviewed by the Board Treasurer and then presented to the full Board for final review and approval.

Pt VI, Line 12C

The conflict of interest policy is reaffirmed annually at Board meetings and throughout the year. During internal leadership meetings any potential conflicts are disclosed and addressed.

Pt VI, Line 15A

The salary for the Executive Director was determined through a comprehensive analysis of compensation within peer organizations located within the State of Maine. This process involved assessing the salaries of executive directors in similar nonprofit or comparable entities, considering factors such as organization size, budget, and geographic location. By benchmarking against these peer organizations, we aimed to establish a competitive and fair compensation package for our executive director, ensuring that it aligns with industry standards while recognizing the unique context of our organization.

III, Line 4d: The Countering Extremism Directive (CED) emerges in response to a concerning resurgence of terrorist attacks, particularly those driven by xenophobia, racism, and other forms of intolerance. A 2022 report by the Secretary-General highlights how Member States now perceive this brand of terrorism as the fastest growing or most prominent domestic security threat. Notably, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has identified domestic violent extremism, often rooted in xenophobia and racial resentment, as a significant terrorism-related menace to the United States. Recognizing the limitations of conventional methods such as policing and surveillance, the CED shifts focus on psychological approaches. Its goals are twofold: firstly, to identify new, more effective approaches using psychological insight to disengage extremist sentiment, with a specific emphasis on Racially and Ethnically Motivated Forms of Violent Extremism (REMVE)within the United States. Secondly, the directive aims to develop methods to foster community resilience, thereby mitigating the further proliferation of extremist sentiment. Through these targeted efforts, the CED seeks to confront and address the growing threat posed by extremism in contemporary society. The ongoing research project, Exploring Domestic Extremism: Perspectives of Women in the Far-Right, investigates the complex dynamics underlying the promotion of political extremism, with a specific emphasis on the influence of women in perpetuating such narratives within their communities. Employing a combination of focus groups and a national survey targeting women affiliated with far-right movements, the research endeavors to elucidate the psychological underpinnings of extremism within community contexts, thereby illuminating the ideologies and motivations of social groups such as the TradWives and the Moms for Liberty. The projects objective is to identify potential avenues for intervetion in the countering of extremism.

Pt VI, Line 12C

All financials are reviewed by the Board Treasurer and then presented to the full Board for final review and approval.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt3The salary for the Executive Director was determined through a comprehensive analysis of compensation within peer organizations located within the State of Maine.
IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4III, Line 4d: The Countering Extremism Directive (CED) emerges in response to a concerning resurgence of terrorist attacks, particularly those driven by xenophobia, racism, and other forms of intolerance.
