Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

All members of the board of directors sign a conflict of interest policy and copies are maintained in the executive director's office. The policy is made available in the office on request. The policy requires disclosure of any situation in which there may be or even the apperance of a conflict of interest. In such event, directors will recuse themselves from decision making. Recusals will be reflected in the minutes. The policy is reviewed regularly by the directors.

The board of directors determined only one of the directors would receive compensation and would work full time for the organization. The directors consulted counsel and it was decided that the executive director would receive an annual salary of $100,000.

Page 1 - Organization Summary

Chicago baseball and educational academy (the organization) is a local nonprofit entity dedicated to providing educational assistance and sports training to underprivileged and underserviced communities by exposing the children to current and former major league baseball players and allowing the children to train and learn using major university sports facilities and receiving college level sports training. Thanks to the organization's compassionate donors, these chilldren will receive educational and sports related opportunities not otherwise afforded to them. The fiscal year 2016 was the organization's first year of existence and operation. Benefits of use: uic baseball alum and former major league outfileder, curtis granderson, has collaborated with the university of illinois at chicago and the uic athletics department to establish the chicago baseball & education academy (cbea). The cbea has a mission of providing area youth with the opportunity to play baseball in a fun and safe environment while offering educational experiences on a world-class college campus. Curtis granderson made a donation to uic to help fund the newly constructed curtis granderson stadium which the organization will use. In addition to developing lifelong friendships, the organization seeks to teach the importance of teamwork, leadership, discipline, success, and the understanding that failure is beneficial for growth and development. The children will be taught to set goals and work hard to accomplish them. Partnering with the chicago public schools, the organization, along the uic's curtis granderson stadium, will host 1500 students from 55 different schools giving them an opportunity to play baseball on a ncaa division-1 field. The cbea had a total of 15,000 visits by chicago youth in 2019. Cbea, along with being partnered with the chicago public school system, has partnerships with the chicago park district, little league baseball international, local churches and community groups.

THANKS TO THE ORGANIZATION'S COMPASSIONATE DONORS, THESE CHILLDREN WILL RECEIVE EDUCATIONAL AND SPORTS RELATED OPPORTUNITIES NOT OTHERWISE AFFORDED TO THEM. THE FISCAL YEAR 2016 WAS THE ORGANIZATION'S FIRST YEAR OF EXISTENCE AND OPERATION. BENEFITS OF USE: UIC BASEBALL ALUM AND FORMER MAJOR LEAGUE OUTFILEDER, CURTIS GRANDERSON, HAS COLLABORATED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO AND THE UIC ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT TO ESTABLISH THE CHICAGO BASEBALL & EDUCATION ACADEMY (CBEA). THE CBEA HAS A MISSION OF PROVIDING AREA YOUTH WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY BASEBALL IN A FUN AND SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHILE OFFERING EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES ON A WORLD-CLASS COLLEGE CAMPUS. CURTIS GRANDERSON MADE A DONATION TO UIC TO HELP FUND THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED CURTIS GRANDERSON STADIUM WHICH THE ORGANIZATION WILL USE. IN ADDITION TO DEVELOPING LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS, THE ORGANIZATION SEEKS TO TEACH THE IMPORTANCE OF TEAMWORK, LEADERSHIP, DISCIPLINE, SUCCESS, AND THE UNDERSTANDING THAT FAILURE IS BENEFICIAL FOR GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. THE CHILDREN WILL BE TAUGHT TO SET GOALS AND WORK HARD TO ACCOMPLISH THEM. PARTNERING WITH THE CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THE ORGANIZATION, ALONG THE UIC'S CURTIS GRANDERSON STADIUM, WILL HOST 1500 STUDENTS FROM 55 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS GIVING THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY BASEBALL ON A NCAA DIVISION-1 FIELD. THE CBEA HAD A TOTAL OF 15,000 VISITS BY CHICAGO YOUTH IN 2019. CBEA, ALONG WITH BEING PARTNERED WITH THE CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM, HAS PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE CHICAGO PARK DISTRICT, LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL INTERNATIONAL, LOCAL CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY GROUPS.
