The Foundation is a recently-formed non-profit that aims to help alleviate the world of extreme poverty. Its mission is to catalyze and scale investment in social enterprises that seek to improve the lives of the poor. The Foundation intends to pursue this mission by providing technical support to social enterprises, assisting social enterprises with impact measurement practices including outcomes-based products and assessments, and speaking at and sponsoring events to further the field of impact investing through knowledge and best practice dissemination and public advocacy.

TO EMPOWER SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS AND INCENTIVIZE LASTING SOLUTIONS, TA RECIPIENTS SHARE THE COSTS OF THE SERVICE. ALPHAMUNDI FOUNDATION WORKS WITH THIRD PARTY PROVIDERS AS NEEDED AND OFFERS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE IN CAPACITY BUILDING AREAS SPANNING: - INTERNAL GOVERNANCE (E.G. BOARD STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT);- OPERATIONAL SUPPORT (E.G. NEW MARKET EXPANSION, SUPPLY CHAIN OPTIMIZATION, PROFITABILITY ANALYSIS AND MODELING); - GENDER-SMART INTEGRATION ACROSS THE BUSINESS (E.G. ENSURING FEMALE CLIENTS ARE CONSULTED IN PRODUCT OR SERVICE DESIGN); AND - FINANCIAL PLANNING AND ACCOUNTING (E.G. CASH FLOW MANAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING). THE FOUNDATION'S CORE PROGRAMMATIC PRIORITY IN 2019 WAS THE EXECUTION OF THE POWERING AGRICULTURE INVESTMENT ALLIANCE GRANT FROM USAID. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO CATALYZE PRIVATE SECTOR FINANCING FOR BUSINESSES PROVIDING CLEAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS THAT INCREASE AGRICULTURE PRODUCTIVITY AND/OR VALUE IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. TO DATE, THE FOUNDATION HAS EXECUTED OR LAUNCHED A TOTAL OF FOURTEEN PROJECTS, SPANNING SEVEN COUNTRIES IN LATIN AMERICA AND EAST AFRICA, THAT HAVE CATALYZED AN ESTIMATED USD 7 MILLION OF PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT. SAMPLE PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS ARE INCLUDED BELOW:SUNCULTURE IS A KENYAN BASED FIRM THAT DESIGNS AND SELLS SOLAR POWERED IRRIGATION SYSTEMS THAT HELP SMALLHOLDER FARMERS IN AFRICA IMPROVE CROP YIELDS AND QUALITY. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE GRANT TO SUPPORT REFINING SUNCULTURE'S PAY-AS-YOU-GROW MOBILE PAYMENT PLAN FOR THEIR FLAGSHIP PRODUCT, THE RAINMAKER. THIS SUPPORT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A NEW CONSUMER CREDIT STRATEGY THAT HAS ALLOWED THE COMPANY TO RAPIDLY SCALE UP OPERATIONS. FOLLOWING THIS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, ALPHAMUNDI MANAGED FUNDS COMMITTED USD 2 MILLION INTO THE COMPANYSISTEMA.BIO IS A MEXICAN BASED COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURES, DISTRIBUTES, SELLS AND INSTALLS BIODIGESTERS THAT TRANSFORM LIVESTOCK WASTE INTO ORGANIC FERTILIZER. THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED THE COMPANY WITH TARGETED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO: (1) DEVELOP PRODUCT SUPPLIERS, DISTRIBUTION PARTNERS AND SERVICE PROVIDERS IN A NEW REGIONAL MARKET; AND (2) CONDUCT AN EVALUATION OF SALES AND LOAN REPAYMENT PERFORMANCE ALONG GENDER LINES. THIS SUPPORT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO BOTH: (1) THE STRENGTHENING OF THE FIRM'S SUPPLY CHAIN AND IMPROVEMENT OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCIES TO HELP MEET THE LARGE DEMAND FOR AGRICULTURAL ENERGY PRODUCTS IN THIS NEW MARKET; AND (2) INCREASE SALES AND IMPROVED LOAN REPAYMENT RATES ALONG GENDER LINES. THE FOUNDATION'S SUPPORT HAS ALSO CONTRIBUTED TO CATALYZING USD 1.5 MILLION OF PRIVATE SECTOR INVESTMENT. COCONUT HOLDINGS LIMITED IS A KENYAN BASED FIRM THAT PROCESSES RETAIL COCONUT-BASED FOOD PRODUCTS (E.G. OIL, CREAM AND MILK) SOURCED FROM SMALLHOLDER FARMERS FOR LOCAL AND EXPORT MARKETS. THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTED A FEASIBILITY STUDY TO EVALUATE THE VIABILITY OF TRANSFORMING COCONUT SHELLS TO BRIQUETTES AS A RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE IN THE COMPANY'S COCONUT DE-SHELLING PROCESS. AS A RESULT OF THE FOUNDATION'S SUPPORT, COCONUT HOLDINGS IS PURSUING A BIOMASS BRIQUETTING PILOT TO SUPPORT THE FIRM'S COCONUT DRYING PROCESSES.
