Mission

Raise The Barr programs aim to reduce barriers to higher education and careers that offer family sustaining wages. Programs intentionally designed for single parents and their children who have been historically under-served under-represented on college campuses across the country negatively impacted by systems that favor traditional families.

Increase opportunity and economic mobility for low-income, single-parent students and their children through higher education.

Conflict of Interest Policy. The Organization has a conflict of interest policy. Annually during one of the Board of Directors meetings, each member of the Board is required to complete the conflict of interest form. Any conflict is reported to the Board and noted in the Board minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

Compensation Review and Approval Process - CEO, Executive Management, Officers and Key Employees. Officers are selected by the Executive Committee of the Board and approved by the Board of Directors. The executive committee regularly reviews the annual compensation and benefits of similar positions with like nonprofits from the Center of Nonprofit Management and the American Society of Association Executives and established salary ranges based on the job title, job description, duties, responsibility and authority. Salary ranges for the key employees and program staff are likewise evaluated on a annual basis by their supervisors/managers during the budgeting process and approved by the Board of Directors.

Form 990, Part III, Line 4A

Program Service Accomplishments. Raise the Barr RTB provided 56 scholarships and programming to single-parents in California and Minnesota, including costs of attendance and childcare. Among the 56 scholars, 10 earned their degrees, 45 remained enrolled in school. 25 emergency grants were provided during the year resulting in scholars staying in school and gaining access to additional resources needed to support their families including direct support from RTBs licensed social workers MSW who provided guidance through the emergency funding application process from other sources, gaining access to health care providers, food shelves, low-cost repair services and more. RTB added 2 FTEs who are RTB scholar alumni, as well as 2 part-time program staff with personal experience with direct-service. RTB also added a part-time development associate to support donor cultivation and strategic outreach. In collaboration with their scholars, staff, and professional consultants, RTB developed new program designs and implemented Mobility Mentoring which aims to support scholars in overcoming the extreme stress of poverty by improving focus, planning, and decision-making. RTB continued to support a systems-change initiative in Minnesota in collaboration with the Office of Higher Education with the purpose of educating and engaging service providers in various systems to support student parents in their pursuit of college degrees and economic mobility.

IRS990ScheduleI/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0Raise The Barr RTB scholarship funding with emergency grants of up to 500 is paired with the guidance of a licensed social worker to help stabilize single-parent students and their families in Minnesota and Southern California who have experienced an unforeseen financial need. Scholarship applications are opened for undergraduate single-parents in MN and CA. RTB accepts applications on a rolling basis and encourage undergraduate single-parents to apply early. All qualified RTB scholarlship applicants will gain access to additional resources and programming, regardless of whether they are awarded a scholarship.

Raise the Barr RTB provided 56 scholarships and programming to single-parents in California and Minnesota, including costs of attendance and childcare. Among the 56 scholars, 10 earned their degrees, 45 remained enrolled in school. 25 emergency grants were provided during the year resulting in scholars staying in school and gaining access to additional resources needed to support their families including direct support from RTBs licensed social workers MSW who provided guidance through the emergency funding application process from other sources, gaining access to health care providers, food shelves, low-cost repair services and more. RTB added 2 FTEs who are RTB scholar alumni, as well as 2 part-time program staff with personal experience with direct-service. RTB also added a part-time development associate to support donor cultivation and strategic outreach. In collaboration with their scholars, staff, and professional consultants, RTB developed new program designs and implemented Mobility Mentoring which aims to support scholars in overcoming the extreme stress of poverty by improving focus, planning, and decision-making. RTB continued to support a systems-change initiative in Minnesota in collaboration with the Office of Higher Education with the purpose of educating and engaging service providers in various systems to support student parents in their pursuit of college degrees and economic mobility.

Officers are selected by the Executive Committee of the Board and approved by the Board of Directors. The executive committee regularly reviews the annual compensation and benefits of similar positions with like nonprofits from the Center of Nonprofit Management and the American Society of Association Executives and established salary ranges based on the job title, job description, duties, responsibility and authority. Salary ranges for the key employees and program staff are likewise evaluated on a annual basis by their supervisors/managers during the budgeting process and approved by the Board of Directors.
