“The years 2020 through 2023 saw compton arts council (cac) supporting arts making activities for young people in the pasadena, leimert park and compton areas. Cac also supported or sponsored artists community panel discussion of popular culturemovies, hip-hop, literature, poetry, music--and their impact on community and the world. Cac also provided tickets for elementary, middle and high school students to performances to plays, classical music, opera and dance.”
“Grantee aziz project amount 1,000”
“Public statement for compton arts councils 2019 990the last half of 2018 and all of 2019 were a very productive time for compton arts council (cac). In 2018 a generous patron donated use of a house outfitted and furnished, under cac guidance, as office, meeting and performance spaces. There is a recital salon, complete with piano, for intimate indoor musicales featuring local area musicians, young and old; a board and community meeting room with capability for in-house and remote zoom meetings and presentations on a 70 inch tv screen; 3 workshop/offices with desktop computers donated by occidental college; and an oversized garage that will be converted over the next few months into a low-cost 500 square foot living space for an artist. Cac continued to support friends of the compton library throughout 2019 through donation of books for children and adults, in-kind donations of food and literary arts-themed gift basket prizes for literacy-centered community events and contests.cac continued to focus on team building in 2019 with the development of standardized criteria and processes for increasing the number of board members from the current 3 members to 15 members. New board members will be voted in at the annual meeting and retreat, june 2020. The current board development committee sought and has drawn board membership interest from a variety of highly accomplished individuals in the fields of art, finance, law, business and technology. 2018 and 2019 were about establishing and maintaining community connections through participation in book giveaways, compton library sponsored literacy drives, sponsorship of plays, public art exhibits and music recitals in the greater compton area. Additionally, those years were also about accessing and building out a permanent physical location for cac operations. 2020 is about using our physical assets to establish sustainable, ongoing art and cultural programs for the community. All cac events (art classes, financial literacy seminars, student musician recitals) scheduled for february through may of 2020 are in the process of being re-formatted for online presentation and participation on youtube and zoom. They will be presented in the summer and fall of 2020.compton art council goes onward and upward. Our motto is art for life.2020, though challenging, gave compton arts council (cac) a chance to pause, reflect and build ourselves stronger. Cac has redoubled its commitment to bringing art experiences to the people of all of greater compton. We will continue to engage, support, and build the greater compton art community in service to the people. We had a generous donation in 2020 that enabled cac to hire a part-time office administrator and grants writer. We are currently seeking operations funding to make the position full-time so cac has adequate manpower to undertake establishing a sustainable compton community choir and a sustainable compton youth orchestra.”
