Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization adheres to the authoritative guidance relating to accounting for uncertainty in income taxes included in asc topic income taxes. These provisions provide consistent guidance for the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entity's consolidated financial statements and prescribe a threshold of "more likely than not" for recognition and derecognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. The organization performed an evaluation of uncertain tax positions for the years ended december 31, 2023 and 2022, and determined that there were no matters that would require recognition in the consolidated financial statements or that may have an effect on its tax-exempt status. As of december 31, 2023, the statute of limitations for tax years 2020 through 2022 remains open with the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and the various states and local jurisdictions in which the organization files returns. It is the organization's policy to recognize interest and/or penalties related to uncertain tax positions, if any, in unrelated business income tax expense. The organization did not have any unrelated business income and accordingly, no provision for income taxes is necessary at december 31, 2023.

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt0FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES TEST: THE DERMATOLOGY PA FOUNDATION (DPAF) MEETS THE 10% THRESHOLD REQUIREMENT OF PUBLIC SUPPORT AND IS ORGANIZED AND OPERATED TO FUND AND PROMOTE EDUCATION, RESEARCH, PHILANTHROPHY, TO ADVANCE THE FIELD OF DERMATOLOGY. THE DPAF IS IN ITS TENTH YEAR OF EXISTENCE AND IS WORKING TOWARDS CREATING A LARGER DONOR BASE. THE ORGANIZATION HAS RECEIVED SUPPORT FROM A VARIETY OF ENTITIES BOTH CORPORATE AND CHARITABLE AND THE PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE INCREASED FROM 0% TO 22% IN THE FIRST 5 YEARS. THE CONSTRAINTS OF COVID DURING 2020 - 2022 LIMITED DPAF'S ABILITY TO FULLY CARRY OUT FUNDRASING PLANS TO PROPEL THE ORGANIZATION ABOVE THE 33 1/3% PUBLIC SUPPORT THRESHOLD. DURING 2019 DPAF MOVED AWAY FROM BEING RUN BY A MANAGEMENT COMPANY AND HIRED A DIRECTOR WITH NON-PROFIT FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE. AT THAT TIME, THE ORGANIZATION IDENTIFIED A TARGET FOR DONATION REQUESTS THAT CAN BE FULLY COUNTED AS PUBLIC SUPPORT AND INTENTIONALLY SOUGHT OUT DONATIONS AT THAT LEVEL FROM A WIDER BASE OF POTENTIAL CONTRIBUTORS. AT THE END OF DECEMBER 2021, THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND BOARD RESIGNED. AT THAT TIME, THE RELATED ORGANIZATION SDPA APPOINTED SDPA BOARD MEMBERS AS THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS OF DPAF. DPAF CONTINUES TO WORK WITH OUTSIDE CONSULTANTS TO DETERMINE NEXT STEPS TO TRY AND MEET THE PUBLIC SUPPORT TEST. DURING 2023, THE ORGANIZATION MAINTAINED A DIVERSE BOARD COMPOSITION, WHICH INCLUDES MEMBERS WITH SIGNIFICANT EXPERTISE IN RELEVANT AREAS. THIS DIVERSITY ENSURES THAT THE BOARD IS WELL-PREPARED TO FULFILL THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND TO BENEFIT THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE COLLECTIVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BOARD MEMBERS SUPPORTS THE EFFECTIVE FULFILLMENT OF OUR CHARITABLE OBJECTIVES AND REINFORCES THE ORGANIZATION'S STATUS AS A PUBLIC CHARITY.
