Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Fuse Creates meaningful theater experiences to foster civic engagement See Schedule O, Statement 3

To provide theatrical experience through civic engagement and collaboration with community partners.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Feeling Home is an original immersive, sensorial theatre experience to educate and inform audiences about unjust immigration policies, remove stigmatization, eliminate misinformation, and create empathy and compassion toward immigrants. We have partnered with the San Mateo County History Museum, where an acting ensemble will perform in the multiple-roomed museum. The audience will travel room to room to partake in the experience. The interactive art experiences throughout the production will deepen the story and audience experience. The audience will explore themes of leaving home, discrimination, finding a place through work, maintaining their culture, and other challenges immigrants face. These themes coincide with the museum's Land of Opportunity gallery themes. The immigrant artists and their distinct stories lead this project. This combination of museum theatre, social justice, and celebration is a unique experience for the artists and audiences. Grant funds are used to pay the artists involved and other production costs while keeping ticket costs affordable.$5,714$2,022
Special Delivery is a devised theater piece that conveys its theatrical narrative to its audience through letters and other postal deliveries. These deliveries will include opportunities for audience engagement and accessibility, central components of Fuse's mission. Fuse used response cards that asked audiences to reflect and respond to narrative elements; letter writing/correspondence directly with characters; and activities to shape how an audience member takes in the narrative--for example the inclusion of (and linking to) music playlists, instructions on reading/taking in the postal content in a particular setting or under specific circumstances in one's own home. Other theatrical elements were also involved, such as pre-recorded scenes and online performance content for audience members to access and explore. Grant funds were used to pay the project's lead artists (playwright/directors and facilitators) fair stipends. The grant also provided for a media coordinator to create and oversee a home base website for any digital content that audiences are being asked to engage with throughout the production period, as well as a mailing materials coordinator to orchestrate the packaging and dissemination of mailings. The grant provided the necessary funds to purchase the supplies for the postal mailings, particularly materials made of recycled materials that offset the carbon footprint of the project.$5,000$3,325
Mitos is a collaboration between Fuse Theatre and Quinteto Latino. Both companies center under-resourced artists and communities in their work, and have worked side-by-side in the creation of this project. Fuse Theatre is a theatre company dedicated to making theatre and art accessible to all communities. As an artist collective, its mission is to create theatre experiences with and for communities often underrepresented in artistic spaces. Using stories that engage communities in dialogue around social issues is a hallmark of Fuse. Quinteto Latino is a five-person all-Latinx wind ensemble that has performed only Latinx and Latin American classical music for 17 years. Its mission is to disrupt racial any economic disparities within the classical music field by championing past, present, and future contributions by Latinx composers and musicians. Revenue generated by this program is used to pay artists associated with this program.$4,180$3,630
