Bloodhorse will be an explosive feature documentary film exposing the crimes lurking beneath the glamorous facade of horse racing, a high-stakes, global sport plagued by fraud, doping, and injustice. Horse racing, once known as the sport of kings, has become the sport of cheaters, drug dealers, money launderers, criminal gangs, and dead horses. Twenty-two thoroughbreds die on average every week at racetracks in the United States. In Europe? Zero. This film is a murder mystery, and a tale of corruption told through the story of one rescued, broken-down thoroughbred and a dogged journalist who takes viewers into the dark underbelly of the sport as she investigates the mysterious deaths of champion racehorses and on a journey with the horsemen and women whistleblowers who have turned on their sport to try to save it from itself.During FY 2023-2024, Investigative Studios employed a full-time Executive Director who led our efforts to produce films, train the next generation of investigative journalism filmmakers, and raise funds for the organization.”
