Part 110 Grants and similar amounts paid This amount 109800 reflects donations made towards towards other local non-profits Part 116 Other expenses This expense 7245400 reflects the amount paid towards independent contractors for EYTEs Walking the Beat program EYTE contracts between 10-15 local artistsprofessionals to work directly with program participants Contract rates range from 25-8250 per hour Part III - Primary Exempt Purpose Established in 2015 The Elizabeth Youth Theater Ensembles mission is centered upon strengthening the voices of young artists Utilizing theater-arts based curricula EYTE provides creative learning opportunities for the youth of city and global majorities where they gain experiences that empower self and community Part IV List of Officers Directors Trustees and Key Employees Theodore Perkins Founder serves as the Board Director Executive Artistic Director Mr Perkins is also contracted to serve as Program Director for EYTEs Walking the Beat program Designations Since 2020 Elizabeth Youth Theater Ensemble has been a qualified organization of the New Jersey Cultural Trust and an affiliate member organization of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance Part III Line 28 Walking the Beat is an applied and devised theater project Walking the Beat makes us ask what is a difference between law and justice If systems of oppression inequalities and inequities were designed they can be re-designed As a piece of generative theater Walking the Beat employs a design thinking framework to solve one of our most wicked problems a police state The audience of focus is the City of Elizabeth and everyone living in it moved to question their proximity to power In our collecting data phase we study from our curated digital library the history of policing law as a constructor of race the policing of social movements the way we police each other and radical imagination to create alternative realities and cultures of care We use a design thinking framework to build ensemble and participatory approach to generating ideas and material We first empathize and use stories story circles and interviews to learn about each other document our experiences and conduct field work to learn about what matters to those around us concerning public safety We then move to the ideation phase Open source technology is a methodology democratizing the sharing of ideas among participants This marketplace of ideas will bring us closer to solving our essential problem posed in this workshop the carceral state We begin by asking How might we How might we make policing irrelevant How might we close prisons How might we end recidivism How might we create public safety In our prototyping phase we will practice our solutions and build interfaces in the form of public policy initiatives policy recommendations digital interventions and integrating new practices such as restorative justice in school discipline Finally we will test our ideas through improvisation and practice Throughout this process we are writing documenting and developing multimedia segments reflective of our creative process The modalities integrated throughout our design thinking process capturing each phase of our work are oral history interviews story circles role play digital storytelling theater of the oppressed and playback theater Digital learning tools such as Mural Padlet Mindmap and drawing tools are used to capture a collaborative experience All the multi media pieces emerging are edited arranged and synthesized to render a script then rehearsed and presented to a public audience Guest artists are invited to share their area of expertise and to engage in extending the groups work The post show discussion is a vital component as we work toward sustainability and durability in light of the urgent themes rendered and urgent questions asked The post show discussion includes and disseminates action steps The ensembles rehearsal phase is a time when students and officers work together to share
