IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt8ALL OF OUR PROGRAMMING SEEKS TO MATCH YOUTH WITH A PROFESSIONALLY-TRAINED MENTOR TO HELP YOUTH THRIVE AND BE THEIR BEST SELF. AMY HUNTER, OUR BIG SKY BRANCH COORDINATOR, HAS BEEN HARD AT WORK MODIFYING OUR PROGRAMS TO BE ABLE TO RUN VIRTUALLY WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S CURRENT COVID-19 SCHOOL SCHEDULE TO ENSURE THAT YOUTH STAY CONNECTED THROUGH THIS TUMULTUOUS YEAR. THE SCHOOL AND BBBS AGREED TO BEGIN THE FALL SEMESTER WITH OUR 42 CONTINUING MATCHES (I.E. MATCHES THAT WERE ALREADY MATCHED IN THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR) WHICH INCLUDES 77 BIG SKY YOUTH THROUGH THE BIG & LITTLES, STEM SISTERS, AND BEYOND SCHOOL PROGRAM. AMY HAS BEEN IN TOUCH WITH PARENTS AND KIDS AND THEY ARE ALL EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO STILL MEET VIRTUALLY. FUNDING FROM MOONLIGHT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WOULD HELP US CONTINUE TO ENSURE YOUTH THRIVE THROUGH OUR THREE MENTORING PROGRAMS IN BIG SKY (DESCRIBED IN MORE DETAIL BELOW) AS WELL AS SUPPORT OUR PROGRAMMING AROUND YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH.

IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt12THRIVE BIG SKY CHILD ADVANCEMENT PROJECT (CAP). CAP CAREFULLY MATCHES COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS WITH STUDENTS IN GRADES K-12. MENTORS PROVIDE WEEKLY SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO STUDENTS, HELP THE STUDENTS DISCOVER AND BUILD UPON THEIR INDIVIDUAL STRENGTHS, AND AFFIRM STUDENT ABILITY TO SHAPE THEIR OWN FUTURES. SUCCESS HAD BEEN DEMONSTRATED THROUGH ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL INTERACTION IMPROVEMENTS. FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS, THRIVE HAS WORKED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BIG SKY SCHOOL DISTRICT. CAP STAFF WORK IN THE SCHOOLS TO PROVIDE DAILY SUPPORT AND PUT INTO PRACTICE THE GOALS SET BY THRIVE. MENTORS MEET WITH THEIR CAP MENTEE FOR AN HOUR A WEEK AT THE SCHOOL.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt13THE PROJECT AREA, LOCATED ON THE EAST BANK UPSTREAM OF THE STOREY DITCH BOAT LAUNCH (ON BLM LAND), CONTAINS A STAND OF RIPARIAN VEGETATION, BUT ON THE UPSTREAM END OF THE FLOODPLAIN WILLOWS ARE DECADENT AND THE RIPARIAN VEGETATION COMMUNITY IS SHRINKING IN SIZE (FIGURE 2). FURTHER UPSTREAM, THE STREAMBANK HAS LITTLE TO NO WOODY RIPARIAN VEGETATION. AS A RESULT OF THE ALTERED FLOW REGIME DUE TO HEBGEN DAM, THE MAJORITY OF RIVERBANKS IN THIS REACH DO NOT RECEIVE THE OVERBANK FLOWS AND SCOUR/DEPOSITION NECESSARY TO SUPPORT NATURAL COLONIZATION BY WOODY RIPARIAN VEGETATION. THE STOREY DITCH RIPARIAN RESTORATION PROJECT WILL INCORPORATE MULTIPLE RESTORATION TREATMENTS INCLUDING BANK RESTORATION, PLANTING, AND WILDLIFE FENCING TO ENHANCE THE WOODY RIPARIAN VEGETATION ALONG THE STREAMBANKS OF THE MADISON RIVER.
IRS990ScheduleI/RecipientTable/PurposeOfGrantTxt14HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HAS PARTNERED WITH THE BIG SKY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO BUILD TWO TRIPLEXES FOR TEACHER HOUSING. UTILIZING COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, HABITAT FOR HUMANITY WILL USE ITS RESOURCES TO CREATE AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING SOLUTION FOR THE BIG SKY TEACHERS AND FACULTY. THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN A COLLABORATIVE SOLUTION TO THE HOUSING SHORTAGE IN BIG SKY, ESPECIALLY FOR THE WORKING CLASS AND EMPLOYEES LOOKING FOR LONG TERM RENTALS. THE PROJECT IS ALMOST COMPLETELY FUNDED. THE OVERALL COST OF THE PROJECT INCREASED OVER THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS, LARGELY DUE TO THE NEED TO HIRE SUBCONTRACTOR HELP DUE TO LOSING SEVERAL VOLUNTEERS DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY HAS OFFSET SOME OF THE COST INCREASES WITH DONATIONS FROM INDIVIDUALS, SALES FROM THE RESTORE AND OTHER GRANTS. THIS $17,500 REQUEST WILL HOPEFULLY BE THE FINAL FUNDING NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE SECOND TRIPLEX AND OFFSET THE COST OF SUBCONTRACTOR LABOR.
