Mission and Program Overview

Mission

ReWritten exists to bring holistic support and restoration to fatherless and underserved youth in at-risk communities.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
Heal the Fatherless. ReWrite a Future.Personalized mentoring for at-risk youth to help them become thriving adults.A child without a father is a child at risk. To fill the voids left by their fathers, children often turn to drugs to feel good, promiscuity to feel loved, and gangs to belong. 70% of prison inmates are from fatherless homes. 65% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. 90% of homeless and runaway youth are from fatherless homes. Our Why No child should have to grow up without a father and carry the burden of his absence alone. It is growing up without a father and having little to no support in most areas of life that leaves children the most vulnerable, lost and misguided. Left to this reality, the trajectory of their lives becomes one predetermined by those of generations past. It is this void left by absent fathers and the challenges facing the children we work with that we see as an occasion to which we rise. Through diversified programs and practical help, we work alongside children and families to create a productive and peaceful community. The cornerstone of ReWrittens work is personal relationships with our participants. ReWrittens goal is to foster a commitment to the community that will promote a five fold transformation in the lives of the participants we serve: academic success, strong interpersonal skills, creative outlets, employment assistance, and most importantly, a renewed sense of hope in the future.ReWritten is an organization formed in direct response to the number of young people growing up in a largely fatherless community. We identify youths who are going to have a turbulent transition to adulthood, as well as adults who are struggling to thrive, and offer a positive support system that enables them to avoid pitfalls that can derail their lives. The focus is slightly different at each level but thegoal remains the same: empower the participant to make positive changes in his/her life. With Highly Relational Mentoring Children Can ThriveSafe EnvironmentSafety goes beyond physical well-being. Having a safe environment where children feel protected emotionally gives them freedom to explore their passions, pursue their dreams, and discover new areas of interest so that they may be themselves, safely.Emotional SupportMost often, a childs emotional support needs get in the way of success inside and outside of the classroom. By helping to provide healing first, we can pave a path to academic and personal success.Academic & Career GuidanceAt-risk youth benefit from hands-on academic enrichment. We provide assessments, customized tutoring, and home support across the core subjects. As they emerge from school, we prepare them for life with goal setting, job readiness, college preparedness, and resum building.Success Looks Different for Every Child- Emotional Healing- Academic Success- Confidence- Self-Sufficiency- Development of Essential Life Skills- Job Readiness & Work Ethic- Ownership of Their FutureHow It Works1) AssessWe start by getting to know each child to better understand where they are and what they are missing in their lives emotionally and academically.2) Work TogetherBased on the needs of each child, we offer 6 different mentoring and tutoring options geared towards developing key academic and life skills. Career guidance and job readiness continues beyond the academic years.3) Watch Them ThriveEvery academic and personal milestone reached is a reason to celebrate. We stand side by side with our children to help them realize their own definition of success. Our MissionAt ReWritten, we believe no child should have to grow up without a father and carry the burden of his absence alone. Fatherless kids have a hole in their heart that they are desperate to fill. And, without proper direction, they are more likely to turn to drugs, promiscuity, and gangs for fulfillment and belonging. Here at ReWritten, we work alongside the young people we serve to help them become thriving adults. We do this by offering a safe environment, emotional support, and academic guidance through personalized mentoring programs. It is the void left by absent fathers and the challenges facing the children we work with that we see as an occasion to which we rise. Because when you provide protection, healing, and direction, you can help a child ReWrite their future. Our ProgramsAt ReWritten our mission is nothing short of enriching the community and watching lives transform. Our resource facility is located at the center of a largely fatherless community. The void left by absent fathers and the challenges facing the children we work with are seen as more than sad statistics. They are seen as an occasion to which we rise. Through diversified programs and practical help, we work alongside families to create a productive and peaceful community. At ReWritten we strive not to whitewash unsavory headlines, but instead to change lives to rewrite the headlines for the better. Our programs are varied and highly relational. Board members, staff, and volunteers work to ensure not only the academic success of our children but to develop positive interpersonal skills in the community as well.Upper HandA program designed to increase academic excellence by providing individualized educational support through subject assessment, customized tutoring instruction, and 1-1 homework help.
