IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0SAVE A HEART SAVE A LIFE AED PROGRAM PLACES AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AEDS) AND ADVOCATES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CARDIAC EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLANS ANYWHERE YOUTH CONGREGATE. AEDS ARE THE ONLY WAY TO RESTART THE HEART OF AN SCA VICTIM, BUT ARE NOT MANDATED IN ALL SCHOOLS AND YOUTH CENTERS. EVERY MINUTE'S DELAY IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE DECREASES THE CHANCE OF SURVIVAL BY 10%, WHICH IS WHY 92% OF SCA VICTIMS DIE. IT'S CRITICAL FOR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES TO BE AS WELL-PRACTICED IN EXECUTING THE CARDIAC CHAIN OF SURVIVAL AS THEY ARE IN FIRE DRILLS.

IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt0DESCRIPTION: STOCK DONATION DATE: 12/31/16 AMOUNT: 1040000.
IRS990ScheduleA/Form990ScheduleAPartVIGrp/ExplanationTxt1THE ORGANIZATION ENGAGED A NEW TAX PREPARER AND AN ANALYSIS WAS DONE ON THE AMOUNTS REPORTED FOR THE PUBLIC SUPPORT TEST ON PREVIOUSLY FILED RETURNS. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED IN 2016 MEETS THE CRITERIA FOR AN UNUSUAL GRANT OUTLINED IN REGULATIONS SECTION 1.509(A)-3(C)(4). THE DONOR WHO PROVIDED THOSE FUNDS DID NOT CREATE THE ORGANIZATION AND WAS NOT IN A POSITION OF AUTHORITY OVER THE ORGANIZATION. WHILE THE DONOR WAS A SUBSTANTIAL CONTRIBUTOR PRIOR TO THE DONATION, THIS ONE DONATION WAS MORE THAN TEN TIMES THE AMOUNT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY DONATED. THE ORGANIZATION HAS A REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNING BODY AND HAS ATTRACTED BROAD PUBLIC SUPPORT. THE UNUSUAL GRANT WAS OF MARKETABLE SECURITIES. SINCE THE DONATION WAS MADE IN 2016, THE ORGANIZATION HAS SOLD THE STOCK AND USED THE FUNDS TO SET UP AN ENDOWMENT AND RESERVE FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSES OUTLINED IN SCHEDULE D PART XIII. WHEN INCLUDED IN THE PUBLIC SUPPORT TEST AND LIMITED AS AN EXCESS CONTRIBUTOR, THE PUBLIC SUPPORT CALCULATED IS 53%. ALTHOUGH THE ORGANIZATION IS NOT BELOW 33 1/3% EVEN WITH INCLUSION OF THIS DONATION, BECAUSE IT MEETS THE CRITERIA FOR AN UNUSUAL GRANT, IT HAS BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THE CALCULATION. THE AMOUNT SHOWN AS TOTAL CONTRIBUTIONS FOR 2016 HAS BEEN REDUCED BY THIS AMOUNT - $1,040,000. IN THIS ANALYSIS, CERTAIN CONTRIBUTIONS WERE DETERMINED TO BE EXCESS CONTRIBUTIONS. THAT AMOUNT - $98,962, HAS BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THE PUBLIC SUPPORT NUMERATOR.
