“| Explanation:| During 2022 the Nica Project Skills to Save Lives constinued to 1 support individuals affected by violence as they moved from victim to survivor and 2 to strengthen the economic skills and abilities of women affected by interpersonal violence. During the year Skills staff addressed or coordinated the medical psychological legal housing transportation and economic needs of sixty-two 62 victims of violence. This included the provision of 636 psychological counseling sessions to 139 individuals direct victims children and other family members who observed the violence etc.. Six 6 school packages and eight 8 food packages were provided to four 4 victims in extreme poverty situations while they were waiting for government assistance. The staff provided workshops for 200 200 women at the Matagalpa Casas Maternas maternity waiting homes on interpersonal violence and preventing violence activities to increase self- esteem and crafts as therapeutic as well as economic activities. Entrepreneurial activities included providing an innovative craft fair where 32 Skills to Save Lives participants sold food and homemade crafts. These items included jewelry embroidered articles pinatas and foods such as bread tortillas beans and even wine made from Jamaican grapes. The Nicaraguan Ministry of Family Economy facilitated the economic skills training based on the interests expressed by program participants. In addition a small pilot program Strengthening Skills for Life was developed to provide activities that serve as therapy as well as a source of income for the participants. The program which began in June 2022 with 12 adolescents and young women grew to a total of 23 by the end of the year. All of the participants had suffered violence and abuse in their lives. These programs are expected to continue in 2023.”
