Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The tax return is prepared by an outside accounting firm. After completion of said returns, the organization is sent a draft of the tax returns to be reviewed and examined. The organization distributes copies of the returns to those individuals charged with governance. Those individuals at that time can review and if applicable discuss any line items in the return with the accountant who has prepared the return. If all items are found to be acceptable, an authorization is signed and provided to authorize the outside accounting firm to process, sign and provide copies of the returns to be filed (paper or electronically) with the designated governmental agencies. The tax returns are then signed by the organization, stamped and mailed with certified return receipt or the signed form 8879 is provided to the outside accounting firm allowing electronic filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY is being monitored by Annual Disclosures. Because no conflict was identified during the tax year, no additional enforcement actions were necessary. The Board and the staff are trained on how to identify and address conflicts of interest in accordance with the organization's policies. All Board members and key employees must sign the Conflict of Interest policy upon joining the organization and again annually, along with an annual signing of a disclosure form related to actual and potential conflicts. We monitor for potential conflicts on an ongoing basis and at board meetings.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15A

The Executive Committee of the Board reviews salary compensation surveys upon setting the compensation of key employees and before making any significant changes to key employee compensation. The Executive Committee reports their findings to the Board. The full board reviews the compensation of key employees in the process of approving the organizations annual budget.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15B

The Board of Directors reviews and approves the highly-paid and key employees' annual salaries for performance and industry norms.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 18

Federal Tax Returns are available at guidestar.org. and charitynavigator.org.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Governing documents are available for public inspection at the principal place of business. The conflict of interest policy and the organization's financial statements are available upon request.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0On-Demand Training: In July 2024, One World began offering certificates for participants who completed trainings on transition planning and building strong nonprofit boards. Between July and December of 2024, we awarded 108 certificates. 55 people from 27 organizations learned how to position their nonprofits for stability through all types of transitions and earned a Nonprofit Transition Readiness certificate. We also released new content on building strong boards of directors in FYE 2024. Our board strengthening trainings helped organizations feel more empowered, increase board effectiveness and engagement, improve interactions between the board and team, and devise new board fundraising strategies. Our members contributed their extensive knowledge to peer-led videos, providing practical insights into topics covered in our board strengthening training series.
IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Individualized Coaching: We matched one organization with an expert consultant for individualized coaching to help them define board goals, establish a supportive and productive board culture, and implement systems for assessing board performance.Group Coaching: We delivered coaching to a group of 6 member organizations led by a One World facilitator and an expert consultant. The coaching helped the member organizations maximize synergy between their organizations and their boards of directors. The combination of peer learning and coaching allowed participants to benefit from each others lived experiences and engage with crucial topics, such as board engagement and board fundraising.
