General explanation attachment

History: in the month of ramadan (fasting month), 1993 habibe husain got an inspiration to start a non-profit organization to serve those in need in the bay area. She was also inspired to name it rahima which contains the meanings of compassion, mercy, and justice.she wrote down her vision and mission with the details of the kinds of activities and projects they would focus on. A few close friends subsequently joined and the work began to start providing food to the local needy. Rahima foundations first project was to prepare and deliver 500 bags of groceries for a thanksgiving meal, to a local catholic charity called sacred heart. Habibe husain was already known in the community for her community services, and was respected for her dedication, integrity, and trustworthiness. Thus the support from the community came readily, in the form of non-perishable food, as well as monetary donations. In time the operations moved from her carport to a small rental facility, and then to a larger facility which is currently used as offices of the foundation, as well as warehousing close to ten tons of food that is distributed to about 2000 individuals. Since 1993, when we started with taking care of a couple of families, rahima foundation has grown to a much larger institution, currently serving hundreds of families in the bay area. Many of these families are refugees from distant places like somalia, iraq, afghanistan, who have been displaced primarily because of wars. These families are sponsored by various agencies like catholic charities and irc, and get initial help from them for a few months. After that they are expected to fend for themselves. Rahima foundation provides much-needed food to the families. Rahima also provides to the most deserving families such as single parent families, disabled, and seniors, monetary assistance towards their rent, utilities, and transportation on a monthly basis. There are also indigenous families and individuals referred by agencies, or on their own, apply and get help from rahima foundation.we do not discriminate based on religion, color, ethnicity, or for any other reason. Our doors are open to all human beings who are in need of the services we provide.we have a process to evaluate people who apply for help to rahima. And we encourage and guide the families to become self-sufficient as quickly as possible.we have kept our costs under control at less than 15% of revenue for all these years. This is mostly because of the scrupulous, conscientious, and honest ways it is run, guided by the principles established by its founder, habibe husain.these principles include the following:know & believe that god is in-chargecharity begins at home, so serve the people in our own communitiesput yourself in others shoes treat people with dignity and respect start small & build upon itbe conscious of the accountability of handling public money consistent contributions, no matter how small, have tremendous barakah (blessings)do not underestimate the power of sincere initiative strictly follow the law of the land achievements during the year:in 2018, we continued our usual programs of monthly food distribution, soup kitchen, and financial assistance; and added the following new programs, as well as new geographical area of east palo alto and dublin:wellness program. In collaboration with second harvest food bank (shfb) and kaiser permanente milpitas, we initiated the monthly distribution of a special diet for kaiser patients who qualified to receive the groceries. Over 20 patients are served each montheast palo alto soup kitchen. In partnership with a local shelter for the homeless, we provide and serve dinner twice a month to 55 temporary residents achievements during the year:east palo alto snacks for students. We started a project to provide healthy snacks for high school students of deserving families. We provide 300 snacks per montheast palo alto groceries for families. We started this project to give monthly

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt9HISTORY: IN THE MONTH OF RAMADAN (FASTING MONTH), 1993 HABIBE HUSAIN GOT AN INSPIRATION TO START A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION TO SERVE THOSE IN NEED IN THE BAY AREA.
