Mission

Valley medical center foundation is an independent community-driven 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation that enhances community health & related human service needs via the santa clara valley health & hospital system (scvhhs), which includes valley medical center (vmc) the specific purpose of the foundation is to provide financial support for scvhhs, through the following activities, among others, 1) soliciting contributions and raising funds for the support of scvhhs, 2) acquiring property by gift, devise, bequest, purchase, or otherwise, for the benefit of scvhhs, and 3) holding property,making investments, and applying income or making property available to scvhhs.

To enhance community health and related human needs via the county of santa clara health system.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization evaluates its uncertain tax positions and will recognize a loss contingency when it is probable that a liability has been incurred as of the date of the financial statements and the amount of the loss can be reasonably estimated. The amount recognized is subject to estimate and management judgement with respect to the likely outcome of each uncertain tax position. The amount that is ultimately sustained for an individual uncertain tax position or for all uncertain tax positions in the aggregate could differ from the amount recognized. As of december 31, 2021 management did not identify any uncertain tax positions.

BUT INCREASINGLY, THE FOCUS OF THE FOUNDATION WILL PIVOT FROM COVID-19 RESPONSE TO RECOVERY. THE ORGANIZATION WILL PRIORITIZE SUPPORT FOR SERVICES THAT TARGET POPULATIONS MOST IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND INVEST IN PROGRAMS THAT ADDRESS THE MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS OF FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE WORKERS. FRIENDS OF ST. LOUISE - THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA PURCHASED THREE BANKRUPT AND/OR CLOSED HOSPITALS IN EARLY 2019, TWO OF WHICH HAD PRE-EXISTING FOUNDATIONS LATER DISBANDED. THE FOUNDATION IS NOW RAISING FUNDS FOR AND SUPPORTING SERVICES AT SANTA CLARA VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER HOSPITALS & CLINICS, INCLUDING O'CONNOR HOSPITAL, ST. LOUISE REGIONAL HOSPITAL, AND THE DEPAUL HEALTH CENTER IN ADDITION TO THE REST OF THE COUNTY OF SANTA CLARA HEALTH SYSTEM. "FRIENDS OF ST. LOUISE" IS THE NEW AFFILIATE GROUP LAUNCHED BY THE FOUNDATION TO SERVE AS THE COMMUNITY-FUNDRAISING ARM FOR ST. LOUISE REGIONAL HOSPITAL. COMPRISED OF THE FORMER MEMBERS OF THE NOW-DEFUNCT ST. LOUISE HOSPITAL FOUNDATION, FRIENDS OF ST. LOUISE WILL BE THE CONDUIT BY WHICH THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS THE EXPANSION OF THE HOSPITAL. IN DECEMBER 2021, A NEW ANNUAL FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR ST. LOUISE WAS LAUNCHED, RAISING OVER $100,000. A CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT A WOMEN AND CHILDREN'S CENTER - THE OPENING OF A NEW MAIN HOSPITAL BUILDING AT SCVMC IN 2017 ALLOWED THE CURRENT MAIN HOSPITAL TO BE RE-PURPOSED AS A CENTER FOCUSING ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN'S CARE. THE FOUNDATION IS RAISING FUNDS TO PROVIDE THIS BUILDING WITH AN ARTISTIC/AESTHETIC UPGRADE BEFITTING A FREE-STANDING WOMEN/CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL (SAN JOSE IS CURRENTLY THE LARGEST CITY IN THE UNITED STATES WITHOUT ONE). THIS MULTI-YEAR EFFORT IS THE LARGEST PROJECT THE FOUNDATION HAS EVER UNDERTAKEN. IN 2018, THE NAME OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALLY BECAME THE SUSANNE B. WILSON WOMEN & CHILDREN'S CENTER.VIOLENCE PREVENTION - THE SANTA CLARA COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT LEADS A COMMUNITY-WIDE COALITION TO ADDRESS VIOLENCE IN EAST SAN JOSE AS A PUBLIC HEALTH CONCERN. AS SUCH, THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN INVITED TO BE PART OF THIS COALITION AND HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS THE "WELLNESS FUND," WHERE DOLLARS RAISED TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF THE ALLIANCE WILL BE KEPT AND ADMINISTERED. THE FOUNDATION'S CEO IS ACTIVE ON THE COALITION'S LEADERSHIP TEAM.SPINAL CORD AND BRAIN INJURY REHABILITATION - SECURING GRANTS AND GIFTS TO ENHANCE THE WORLD-CLASS CARE PROVIDED BY SCVMC'S SPINAL CORD INJURY (SCI) AND THE TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) UNIT IS A MAJOR PRIORITY, SINCE DOING SO NOT ONLY HELPS PATIENTS OBTAIN THE BEST TREATMENT FOR THESE KINDS OF INJURIES BUT ALSO HELPS ATTRACT PATIENTS WITH PRIVATE INSURANCE. FOR THE YEARS ENDED DECEMBER 31, 2021, AND 2020, THE VOLUNTEERS WHO RUN THIS INSPIRING PROGRAM BOUGHT, BUILT, AND DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 1,200 AND 1,960 BIKES TO CHILDREN IN SILICON VALLEY, RESPECTIVELY. THIS WAS ACCOMPLISHED DESPITE THE FACT THAT GATHERINGS OF ANY SIZE WERE FORBIDDEN DUE TO COVID-19 RELATED RESTRICTIONS. NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) SUPPORT - SCVMC'S NICU PROVIDES THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE TO HUNDREDS OF TINY, PREMATURE INFANTS EACH YEAR.
