Mission statement (continued) (part i, line 1 & part iii, line 1): where individuals are strongly connected to their neighbors and play an active role in shaping the destiny of their communities. This increase in social capital will result in communities that are safer, healthier and more vital.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Sci continued to implement comprehensive programs to build social capital in massachusetts communities. 25 full-time americorps members coordinated youth leadership programs, planned community events, and managed online community outreach tools. Accomplishments include recruiting and coordinating over 5,000 volunteers and serving over 50,000 individuals. Sci helps communities develop the skills and tools needed to engage citizens to make a difference, with a priority on promoting youth success and healthy communities. A lean professional staff combined with 25 full- time americorps members and strong partners enables sci to serve over 20 massachusetts communities and recruit over 5,000 volunteers per year. Major program areas include: youth leadership: guided by the sci youth leadership curriculum, sci empowers teens in 10 youth council programs to develop initiatives to address pressing community needs. Hundreds of teens develop leadership skills through the program each year, and have implemented projects to reduce substance abuse, prevent bullying and clean up local communities. Volunteer outreach & community events: sci helps organizations increase their capacity to recruit and manage volunteers, and successfully implement community events that unite diverse community members. Online engagement: sci implements community web portals, social media and community outreach strategies that connect thousands of residents to opportunities to participate in civic life. Training social capitalists: sci also trains emerging adult community leaders to collaborate effectively, make connections, bridge differences, and nurture social networks to make a difference. Uniting diverse communities: while bringing diverse people together has always been an important part of sci's work, it has been a major focus in recent years. This has included co-facilitating community dialogues on race and diversity, and launching new programming to support woburn's increasingly diverse students. New programming during the fiscal year ended june 30, 2019, included a "cultural connections" initiative whereby a diverse group of residents cooked and shared a meal from a variety of cultures to learn more about difference cultures.

The following text is from the organization's draft financial statements for the fiscal year ended june 30, 2019 (the audit of those statements is in progress as of the date of this filing): accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require that a tax position be recognized or derecognized based on a more than likely or not threshold. This applies to tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return. The organization regularly assesses the potential settlement outcomes resulting from income tax examinations. The organization does not believe that there are any uncertain tax positions that require recognition in its financial statements. As of the date of this report, the statute of limitations for examination by the federal and massachusetts taxing authorities is open for the organization's 2015 through 2018 tax returns (representing the fiscal years ended june 30, 2016 through 2019).

MAJOR PROGRAM AREAS INCLUDE: YOUTH LEADERSHIP: GUIDED BY THE SCI YOUTH LEADERSHIP CURRICULUM, SCI EMPOWERS TEENS IN 10 YOUTH COUNCIL PROGRAMS TO DEVELOP INITIATIVES TO ADDRESS PRESSING COMMUNITY NEEDS. HUNDREDS OF TEENS DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS THROUGH THE PROGRAM EACH YEAR, AND HAVE IMPLEMENTED PROJECTS TO REDUCE SUBSTANCE ABUSE, PREVENT BULLYING AND CLEAN UP LOCAL COMMUNITIES. VOLUNTEER OUTREACH & COMMUNITY EVENTS: SCI HELPS ORGANIZATIONS INCREASE THEIR CAPACITY TO RECRUIT AND MANAGE VOLUNTEERS, AND SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENT COMMUNITY EVENTS THAT UNITE DIVERSE COMMUNITY MEMBERS. ONLINE ENGAGEMENT: SCI IMPLEMENTS COMMUNITY WEB PORTALS, SOCIAL MEDIA AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH STRATEGIES THAT CONNECT THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS TO OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN CIVIC LIFE. TRAINING SOCIAL CAPITALISTS: SCI ALSO TRAINS EMERGING ADULT COMMUNITY LEADERS TO COLLABORATE EFFECTIVELY, MAKE CONNECTIONS, BRIDGE DIFFERENCES, AND NURTURE SOCIAL NETWORKS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. UNITING DIVERSE COMMUNITIES: WHILE BRINGING DIVERSE PEOPLE TOGETHER HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN IMPORTANT PART OF SCI'S WORK, IT HAS BEEN A MAJOR FOCUS IN RECENT YEARS. THIS HAS INCLUDED CO-FACILITATING COMMUNITY DIALOGUES ON RACE AND DIVERSITY, AND LAUNCHING NEW PROGRAMMING TO SUPPORT WOBURN'S INCREASINGLY DIVERSE STUDENTS. NEW PROGRAMMING DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2019, INCLUDED A "CULTURAL CONNECTIONS" INITIATIVE WHEREBY A DIVERSE GROUP OF RESIDENTS COOKED AND SHARED A MEAL FROM A VARIETY OF CULTURES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT DIFFERENCE CULTURES.
