IRS990/Desc0Yellowstone Academy is a private, faith based school in Houston's Third Ward that serves students from Pre-K through the 8th grade, and alumni attending various high schools in Houston. Yellowstone Academy opened on August 21, 2002 with four classes of three and four year old students. During the 2016-2017 school year, Yellowstone Academy served 350 students from pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade and an additional 96 graduates through the high school support program. One hundred percent of the students served were from low income families who live in neighborhoods with failing schools. Through donors' generosity, each student received a scholarship that covered 99% of the cost of attendance.Yellowstone Academy is committed to leveling the academic playing field for our students with our community's support. Of the 27 HISD elementary and middle schools our students were zoned for, the majority were ranked as Ds or Fs. As such, the Academy's work has never been more urgent as the school is standing in the gap for hundreds of students providing them with a high quality education and opportunities that they otherwise would not be able to access.Yellowstone's academic program is designed to encourage students to make significant academic gains each year. Students and families committed to a longer school day and an extended school year to maximize learning times. Through class sizes that averaged 16 students, instructional staff delivered high quality instruction with a focus on reading and math mastery. To support classroom instruction and learning, Yellowstone invested in Think through Math and I-Station Reading Assessment which equipped teachers with real time performance data so that they can adapt lessons to individual students. Yellowstone's early investment in our pre-kindergarten students continues to show benefits as students matriculate through the school's program. Each of our Pre-K 4 students made signigicant progress in both phonological awareness and math, indicating they were well prepared for kindergarten. Additionaly, we continue to see growth in our elementary school students' performance. According to the Iowa Test of Basic skills, 74% of Yellowstone's 8th grade students tested at the proficient or advanced in reading and 95% scoring proficient or advanced in math. Always committed to exellence, the school continues to evaluate methods to differentiate academic instruction to drive academic performance. The cumulative benefit of Yellowstone's program is apparent from the way our students go on to succeed. Our 2017 eighth grade graduates were granted admission to multiple top ranking high schools throughout Houston, with 50% attending private schools, 33% attending magnet and the remaning 17% attending top charter schools. To further compliment our academic program during the 2016-2017 school year, Yellowstone provided daily transportation for students, continued daily breakfast and lunch service, and distributed uniforms and school supplies to students in need. These tools helped to ensure that our students were able to focus on their academic goals. Additionally, Yellowstone Academy provided social services that included group and individual counseling, access to healthcare services, and family and parent programming. Yellowstone has continued to engage with its community partners including Houston Food Bank, Christus Health, Texas Children's Hospital, Assistance Leauge of Houston, Interface Samaritans, University Eye Institute at the University of Houston, UT School of Dentistry, and Express Yourself Clearly. At the core of Yellowstone's mission and success was our ability to instill in our students Christian values to guide their lives. Students attend Bible class each school day, and once a week the campus gathered together for a school wide chapel service. The school also provided opportunites for our students to put their beliefs into practice through community service like National Day of Service and
