The mission of the Corporation is to nurture the healing ministry of the Church, supported by education and research. Fidelity to the Gospel urges the Corporation to emphasize human dignity and social justice as it creates healthier communities. The Corporation, sponsored by a lay-religious partnership, calls other Catholic sponsors and systems to unite to ensure the future of Catholic health care. To fulfill this mission, the Corporation, as a values-based organization, will assure the integrity of the ministry in both current and developing organizations and activities; research and develop new ministries that integrate health, education, pastoral, and social services; promote leadership development and formation for ministry throughout the entire organization; advocate for systemic changes with specific concern for persons who are poor, alienated, and underserved; and steward resources by general oversight of the entire organization.
To nurture the healing ministry of the roman catholic church by bringing it new life, energy and viability in the twenty-first century.

“Effective december 31, 2013, chi st. Luke's health baylor college of medicine medical center transferred restricted funds held in its endowment to st. Luke's health system. The transfer was categorized as an equity transfer of funds between the two related organizations in furtherance of the healthcare mission of chi st. Luke's. Part of the system's charitable purpose is to provide administrative support, including asset management, to the exempt hospitals of the st. Luke's system, thus creating a business purpose for the transfer. As a result, the transfer did not create an excess benefit transaction to either party involved. An endowment fund is a fund in which a donor has stipulated, as a condition of his/her gift, which the principal be maintained in perpetuity and that only income earned by the fund is expended. St. Luke's health system utilizes the income derived from the investment of the corpus of the endowment funds. The stipulation that governs these funds is that only the income generated can be made available for disbursements in special purpose funds, st. Luke's health system operations, or to fund disbursements to external entities. The endowment funds and the purposes for which they are intended, include but are not limited to, applied research and education in biomedical engineering, cardiology education and research, developmental programs related to internal medicine, nuclear medicine, radiology, orthopedic research and nursing education. St. Luke's foundation, a related organization, also holds endowment funds.”
