Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Depending on when the first draft is completed, the 990 is presented and discussed at the next audit committee of the board of regents meeting. The audit committee then presents to the board of regents the final 990 or reports on the status of the 990 and any items needing to be discussed. Depending on when the final 990 is completed, the 990 is either presented and discussed at the next audit committee meeting or executive committee of the board of regents for approval and acting on behalf of the governing body. The executive committee presents and discusses the 990 at the next board of regents meeting and votes on acceptance.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Board of regents members must annually and intermittently disclose any conflicts of interest. If there is a conflict of interest the board of regents decides on what action to take.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The governing documents and conflict of interest policy are made available to the public upon request. The audited financial statements are not made available to the public unless by court order. However, form 990 contains complete fiscal year financial information and is available upon request and the guidestar website. The summarized audited financial statement information is reported in the annual report. The annual report is distributed to friends of the college and is available upon request. Financial information is also reported to and disclosed on the us department of education integrated postsecondary education data system (ipeds).

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

To enhance the long term operation of the college, provide financial leverage and be used as needed and as when directed by the board of regents to spend on expenditures such as, but not limited to, operating, plant/building and research.

PART X, LINE 2:

Note f - federal taxes and uncertain tax positions the college is a non-profit agency exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Generally accepted accounting principles (gaap) provide detailed guidance for the financial statement recognition, measurement and disclosure of uncertain tax positions recognized in an enterprise's financial statements. Gaap requires an entity to recognize the financial statement impact of a tax position when it is more likely than not that the position will be sustained upon examination. The college believes that all significant tax positions utilized by the college will more likely than not be sustained upon examination. Accordingly, the college has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at august 31, 2013. The college is subject to routine audits of the internal revenue service. The college believes it is no longer subject to audits for years prior to 2010. The college's policy is to classify income tax related interest and penalties in interest expense and other expense, respectively.

PART XII, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:
