Activity 2

Over 500 public and private schools have over 35,000 trees thanks to our Trees for Schools program. Schools are chosen based on recommendations from parents, teachers, principals, neighbors, and administrators. The school grounds are surveyed to decide the number and species of trees that should be planted.For two years, Trees For Houston waters, stakes, and mulches to ensure the survival of the trees. This year, Trees for Schools planted and maintained 877 trees at 37 Houston area school grounds.

Activity 3

The mission of the Trees For Houston Education Program is to expand the awareness of the critical role that trees play in our community for residents of all ages and grade levels. In addition to planting the perimeter of a minimum of 25 schools per year, Trees For Houston offers a classroom and outdoor education program that focuses on the value of planting and preserving trees, as well as the benefits of trees in an urban environment. This program provided classroom instruction for 4,667 students and adults around the greater Houston area during the 2012-13 school year.
